A brief history of the appearance of rum and its varieties

Surely many have heard of such an alcoholic drink as Rum. This drink, like any other, has its own individual characteristic notes, both taste and smell. It should be noted right away that it has several varieties. For example, light rum is most often used as an additional ingredient in cocktails. In its pure form, many do not like it, mostly due to the fact that it is a fairly strong drink.

There is, of course, dark rum, which, in addition to being used in cocktails, is often used in cooking. Naturally, under heat treatment, alcohols evaporate, and the taste of rum remains. For pure consumption, mainly only rum, which has undergone a long exposure, is used. By the way, this extract, like many other alcoholic beverages, is carried out in an oak barrel. It is from her that he acquires a dark shade. And so, initially the liquid is light and transparent.

Where was rum first made?

It is now produced all over the world. But the highest quality, and probably most of it, is produced in the Caribbean, as well as along one South American river called the Demerada. The fact is that this is partly the birthplace of Roma. Experts are divided on this issue in their opinions. Some for the Caribbean, others for the West Indies. But be that as it may, sugar cane grows in both of these territories, from which this drink, in principle, is made. More precisely, rum is the result of the fermentation of sugar cane juice.

Rum and the sea – how are they related?

Many people still know rum as a sea drink. This is partly true. The fact is that in the old days, sailors could not take such alcoholic beverages as beer or wine on their long voyages. They just went bad in a short amount of time. But strong drinks were wounded for a long time, which is rum. That is why it was so popular with both military sailors and pirates. Also, its fortress could be used as an antiseptic.

There are many alcoholic drinks that are similar to rum, or it is similar to them. The fact is that the way they cook and store is about the same. Similar drinks include Calvados rum, in the manufacture of which fruits are involved. It only makes the taste and smell much richer. It is safe to say that rum is:

  • tasty and fragrant drink;
  • universal drink (used in cocktails);
  • prestigious drink;
  • combined with other products, such as a cigar or cola.
