Doctor detained for fake prescriptions
Police officers from Mazovia are investigating information about a doctor who issues false prescriptions in return for financial benefits. It led them on the trail of a 77-year-old inhabitant of Otwock. After collecting the evidence and on the order of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrołęka, the officers arrested a doctor who, according to the police officers’ accounts, was surprised by their visit. In the same case, the officers detained two more people: a 34-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman.

According to the findings of the police, from 2018 to 2020, without the knowledge and consent of patients, the doctor issued prescriptions for highly reimbursed drugs, which were then bought at large discounts and transferred to other patients.

In the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrołęka, the doctor heard 47 allegations, including accepting financial benefits in connection with the performance of a public office. The 77-year-old faces up to 10 years in prison.

The two remaining detainees each heard three charges of aiding in illegal practices. The police do not rule out further arrests, as the investigation is still ongoing.
