The 21-year-old from India was a final year student at the Kharkiv National Medical University. He was killed during the shelling of Kharkiv. As a result, the Indian government announced that they would investigate the reasons for students leaving abroad for educational purposes.
Naveen Shekharappa Gyandagoudar was a senior medical student. He came from the state of Karnataka in southern India. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi confirmed the death of the 21-year-old on Twitter.

“He called from Ukraine two or three times a day”
The office of Karnataka’s Chief Minister of State, Basavaraj Bommai, said ministry officials had already spoken to Naveen’s father, Shekar Gowda. The latter, in turn, said that he had contact with his son in the morning, several hours before his death. Naveen called my father two or three times a day.
Suman Sridhar, a friend of the killed Naveen, told the Mirror Now news channel that he and many Indian students are still in Kharkiv and are asking the Indian government to evacuate as soon as possible.

The medical education system in India has become a topic of conversation
