A 16-year-old who had previously vomited blood died on the border with Belarus. Doctor: each such patient should go to the Emergency Department

Yesterday, TvoiLokony journalists found out about a 16-year-old boy from Iraq, whose body was found on the Belarusian side. Earlier, he was supposed to be in Poland. The information obtained by the journalist TvoiLokona Janusz Schwertner shows that the boy was bleeding from his mouth. Jakub Sieczko, an anaesthesiologist, is in the group of medics who want to help refugees. – I repeat, every patient who vomits blood goes to the HED, most often with the information that we are transporting such a man and we need to prepare for quick actions – he says in an interview with Medonet.

  1. There are refugees on the Polish-Belarusian border all the time, being transferred from one side to the other
  2. They are chilled, dehydrated people. As Marcin Wyrwal, a journalist from TvoiLokony, says, it is not about healthy, strong and adult men. Most of this group includes children
  3. The 16-year-old from Iraq was one of them. His body was found on the Belarusian side. The information obtained by our journalists shows that before his death, while on the Polish side, the boy vomited blood
  4. More information can be found on the Onet homepage

The body of a 16-year-old boy on the Belarusian side. Before that, he was vomiting blood

In this case, at the moment we only have presumptions and information that the journalist of TvoiLokony Janusz Schwertner obtained from the Ocrzenie Foundation. They show that the 16-year-old from Iraq stayed on the Polish side, and was then pushed to Belarus with his entire family. There the boy died. Earlier, still on the Polish side, blood was supposed to be coming out of his mouth.

– I was informed that this 16-year-old boy was vomiting blood. This is a symptom of gastrointestinal bleeding. In what mechanism, i.e. what exactly happened there, I cannot say, because I simply do not know anything more – says Jakub Sieczko, an anesthesiologist in an interview with Medonet. The specialist is a member of a group of medics who are waiting for only one signature from Minister Kamiński to help refugees staying at the border.

When there is a concern that gastrointestinal bleeding has occurred, urgent medical attention is required. It is a life-threatening condition.

– We have information that this boy was previously on the Polish side. And that means we have someone vomiting blood who was seen on the Polish side. Later we have the body of this person on the Belarusian side. In turn, there is no information that any help was given to him. If a man vomiting blood came to me, I would suspect gastrointestinal bleeding, which could be a life-threatening condition. And the question that hangs over the whole thing is: why didn’t an ambulance come to this 16-year-old?

Doctor: “Every patient who vomits blood goes to the emergency room”

Bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract can have various causes. This is by no means a situation where the patient can be sent home. This is a condition with high mortality.

– If we were dealing with gastrointestinal bleeding, it could have been e.g. a bleeding stomach ulcer. Such a boy should definitely have been examined by a surgeon, perhaps a gastroscopy had to be performed to determine the source of the bleeding – adds Jakub Sieczko. – I’m not a surgeon, but I work in emergency medical services. Every patient, I repeat, every patient who vomits blood goes to the HED, most often with the information that we are transporting such a person and we need to prepare for quick actions. It is not only a potential life-threatening condition, but also a condition with a fairly high mortality rate. Such a man is not sent home. Of course, I don’t know what exactly happened there. Maybe he had a cut in his mouth and just spat a little blood. Maybe it was bleeding from the respiratory tract, maybe from the nose. I do not know. However, I know that he has died. He died of something, right?
