The doll is a unique object. At different times, she was a toy for a person, an artifact, a ritual symbol, a fetish, but not only. Being a prototype of a person, his copy, double, receptacle of his soul, the doll also performs an important anthropomorphic role: it distinguishes a person from the world of living beings and objects of inanimate nature. With its help, a person learns the world around him and establishes a dialogue with it, because the doll helps to animate, “humanize” any object and any phenomenon, from natural to divine. Finally, the doll helps a person in early childhood to realize their own «I», their gender and social affiliation. Folklorist and ethnographer Igor Morozov conducted a most serious cross-cultural study of the role of the doll, ultimately revealing to the reader the curious patterns of human thinking and worldview.
