The deeper the autumn, the less you want to be outside, where annoying rains, and the temperature steadily creeps to zero. I just want to sit at home – where it is always warm, good and comfortable, where the atmosphere of coziness reigns.
It is not difficult to create comfort around yourself. In fact, it does not rest on pillows and beautiful cups, but on you and your household. A home can feel cozy, warm, and comfortable even without pillows, curtains, and pretty utensils. But definitely not without you and not without those you love. It is you who make the house home, and everything else is just an extension of you.
But you can work on creating the perfect atmosphere. After all, you can endlessly deal with the arrangement of your home. Stylist Alena Vayner named 9 things that will definitely make any interior more comfortable.
Lighting
This is one of the most important things in the interior. Light can be warm or cold, diffused or directional. It is with light that they highlight and emphasize some details and hide others. One properly selected lamp, placed by the sofa or next to the armchair, can fill the space with its diffused, warm light, surround it with an aura of home comfort. By the way, lighting even affects our appearance – it can make us more beautiful, or vice versa.
Living fire
It is good when there is a fireplace at home, but in a city it is not often possible to meet this. Candles will become an affordable alternative – a flickering flame, soft light literally spills over the room with the warmth of a home. No wonder they say that how the fire burns can be watched endlessly. You can put candles in a black shaped metal candlestick: the composition of five tongues of flame is five times more mesmerizing. Lighting candles can be turned into a whole ritual, into a habit, and you can do it every evening to spend time in a pleasant atmosphere. Scented candles will help create and maintain the right mood: in autumn, the smells of sweet caramel, spices, orange or berries sound great.
Curtains
The next, without which it is difficult to talk about comfort, is textiles. Curtains are often the first thing that catches your eye when entering a room: they take up a lot of space and are located next to the often only source of natural light, the window. Behind the curtains, you can completely hide from the bustle of the surrounding world; curtains can only slightly darken the interior. The main thing when choosing curtains is not to overdo it. Multilayer curtains with an abundance of decor, tulle and ruffles are not suitable for every room: they can visually make the ceiling lower, overload the space. Monochromatic graphite or light curtains are not only functional, but also fit into any interior. If you want to add color, you can choose the curtains in the colors of the room.
Textile
It is impossible to overdo it with pillows, bedspreads and blankets. The more there are, the more comfortable the space feels. A large plain knitted blanket will help you get comfortable and warm in the fall off-season. A blanket in the color of the curtains, with textured embossing, will become a bright accent detail. Pillows will add a sense of comfort, softness and tenderness to the room: even if they are of different colors and from different materials, with a print or embroidery and monochromatic. And if you have several sets of replaceable pillowcases, then you can customize the pillows to suit your mood: in the fall, you can choose red or orange. In addition, now there are capsule collections in which items and accessories are matched to each other, and you can not worry that curtains, textiles and decor will not look together.
Family values
Cozy interior – living interior. Family photos, posters, collages, letters and diplomas, pictures drawn by children, handicrafts hung on the walls – all this tells the story of the owners of the house. On the wall in the bedroom or nursery, you can hang a “dream catcher” made with your own hands – even if you do not believe in magic, it will add coziness as if by magic.
Natural flowers
You can also give the interior “life” with the help of fresh flowers. No matter how a person strives to move away from nature in the concrete boxes of cities, plants are still pleasing to the eye, green leaves can cheer you up, even when it is gray and gloomy outside the window. In addition, the choice is huge: from small cacti and succulents to ficuses, thujas and palms – it all depends on taste preferences and the size of the room. You can even grow lemons or greens at home – and delight yourself not only aesthetically, but also gastronomically.
You can add coziness not only with fresh flowers, but also, for example, dried field flowers – they will remind someone of the village life, to someone of the beauty of nature. You can, in the end, just decorate the space with a bouquet of tulips, peonies, any flowers that match the decor, from an ordinary flower shop. And in order to always have a reason to buy flowers, at home it is better to have several vases from different materials – for different moods.
Favorite dishes and tablecloth
Many people associate the word “comfort” with a cup of hot tea, a blanket and a book. Indeed, cups and other utensils play a huge role in creating a warm, comfortable home environment. It’s great if the dishes have their own history: eating and drinking from such dishes is more pleasant and as if tastier. One more element of textiles – a tablecloth – will help to add coziness. It doesn’t matter whether it is white lace or bright, it is the tablecloth that meets us in the morning at breakfast and sees us off in the evening after dinner.
Books
Home interior is hard to imagine without books. Of course, now we read more and more from the screens of phones and tablets, but nothing can replace the smell and rustle of pages of a paper book. Neatly arranged or, conversely, casually thrown on the shelves, books of different sizes with bright or strict covers also add coziness.
Books can be displayed on the shelves mixed with various decorative elements: figurines, vases, piggy banks – in a word, all those family heirlooms that have no place in a closed cabinet. So, between the books you can put a clock in the retro style – vintage seems to us cozy. There you can also arrange frames with photographs or postcards that were once given to you. Finally, a few books can become “desk”, one has only to put them on the couch or on the coffee table. Opening one at random on any page, covered with a blanket and sipping cocoa from your favorite cup, is a pleasure.
