We all know how to take a punch and save face in difficult moments. But stress is not so simple. Sometimes it accumulates quietly and imperceptibly, just at the time when we continue to believe that everything is in order with us. Only now the cough does not go away, the keys are not found, and again it’s time to go to the dentist …
1. You have nightmares
If you again have a dream about a fallen tooth or nightmares about falling from a height, do not take them fatally. Such dreams are dreamed by everyone and quite often, and after them everyone will remain alive.
This stress causes you to fall down and lose your teeth, and because of it you again catch up with the departing train. The only reason such dreams dream is that it’s time for you to give yourself a real rest at least for a while.
2. You get more colds
We no longer have to decide whether to fight or run from a predator to survive, and the stress we experience in traffic and at work is not directly related to the threat to life. But still, we respond to it in the same way as in ancient times – releasing large amounts of the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol.
It is known that in medicine, large doses of cortisol are used in the treatment of allergies – they specifically “turn off” the immune system response in order to relieve irritation.
In the same way, our immunity is turned off by the constant stress we experience, which causes the body to release excessive doses of cortisol again and again.
It may seem that stress controls us so that the palms become cold and the heart beats faster and faster. But no, it is we who manage stress ourselves, we create it literally from nothing – with the power of thought we start this process when we begin to worry and worry about the slightest reason.
3. Your hair is falling out
This is not always due to the environment or bad shampoo. For hair, our nutrition and peace of mind are very important. Try not to worry in vain at least for their sake!
4. You trip, drop and lose everything.
Outwardly, you are a flint, and no one at home or at work has seen you get nervous or break into a scream. But this does not mean that you have overcome stress.
Even in people with strong wills and iron nerves, stressful circumstances affect cognition, memory, speech, and motor skills. Bank cards are lost and found again in the bag, passwords are forgotten, the keys end up in the bathroom on the washing machine. Things seem to be playing hide and seek with you in their own home.
Who would have thought that forgetfulness or falls out of the blue are not accidental and at the same time curable? If this happens to you, get a good sleep and give your body a rest from all possible irritants, and your memory will return to you.
5. You gain weight
Nothing soothes a cloudy evening like coffee with cream and small cookies. A juicy ham or pork knuckle is wonderfully uplifting.
Why do you crave sweets and fats at certain times? The mechanism is simple: after stress hormones trigger the fight-or-flight response, the brain begins to prepare for the fact that it will need additional energy anyway, and it can be obtained most quickly from high-calorie foods, fats and sugar.
6. Intestinal disorders
In a stressful situation, blood rushes to the vital organs in order to ensure their functioning in the first place. Such organs in a life-critical situation are the respiratory system, the heart and the brain (because when we are excited, our hands and feet get cold).
Our full stomach and intestines are only a hindrance to fight or run.
If the intestines are agitated for several days for no apparent reason, or we experience vague pain in the stomach, although we eat as usual, we should think about stress as the cause of this phenomenon and switch to light food first, and in the future, take this feature into account before a potentially stressful situation. your body and follow a sparing diet.
7. You scratch often
Of course, not as clearly and energetically as cats and dogs do. Sometimes you scratch your eyebrow or the tip of your nose several times in a row, or it seems to you that some kind of insect has landed on your hand and needs to be brushed off. Such repetitive actions are also a psychosomatic symptom of stress.
8. You hear ringing in your ears.
Very unexpected. Ringing in the ears – tinnitus in the language of doctors – does not bring much trouble to anyone, but sometimes you suddenly start hearing it literally every day.
Oddly enough, this often coincides with New Year’s Eve chores or preparations for some important event.
9. You have to visit the dentist more often
Teeth grinding in a dream and the habit of clenching teeth occurs against the background of stressful experiences. This phenomenon is called “bruxism” and is not so harmless, as it leads to the erasure of tooth enamel and the upper surface of the teeth so much that it is noticeable even when examined by a doctor.
However, even the most banal caries is directly related to an increase in stress levels, since this changes the amount of immunoglobulin in saliva and other protective factors that neutralize bacteria.
Such subtle signals are sent by the body when stress has not yet completely taken over our lives. These symptoms are more like asking, “What’s going on?”
Try to hear it and reduce the load, understand yourself until it comes to extreme manifestations of stress, psychosomatic illnesses and depression, when the body already loudly declares: “I don’t like it!”
