The French are worried about their visual health. According to the Visual Health Expert (ESV) barometer, 84% of them consider that screens affect their sight. In addition, 70% of workers suffer from dry eyes.

The harmful effects of screens

On the occasion of the 2019 edition of the Mondial de l’Optique, opticians “Experts in Visual Health” revealed the concerns of the French about their visual health, more particularly because of screens. Indeed, according to the study, 97% of participants are concerned about their visual health. They describe eye discomfort which does not resolve despite wearing glasses.

More and more French people are wondering about the impact of screens and the changes in daily habits, leading them to spend more time on their PC or smartphone. They believe, for 84% of them, that screens damage their eyesight. In addition, 94% of those under 30 are convinced that screens are harmful. Moreover, since 2007, the digital deficiency syndrome has been clearly identified. This visual fatigue of the eyes appeared due to exposure to digital screens and blue light.

Better equip yourself

Despite the awareness, adults and children alike spend many hours on screens, on average 2:45 a day for the youngest. The eyes itch, weep and are irritated. People can also experience dry eyes, headaches but also tension in the neck and back. To better protect their children, 4 in 10 respondents indicated that they had purchased glasses designed to protect their children’s eyes.

Other solutions need to be put in place to protect yourself from this syndrome. It is necessary to regularly check your eyesight by a professional in visual health, who will be able to carry out the necessary examinations and offer the most suitable optical equipment. In addition, you will benefit from posture advice to relieve your eyes and your other ailments.
