8 ways to purify alcohol

Fusel oils

You can determine their presence with the help of ignition: a quality drink will burn well, but alcohol with harmful impurities will not.

The oily liquid remaining after burning is the very harmful fusel compounds. They cause a severe hangover and negatively affect the entire body.

They also test for the presence of impurities by dripping alcohol onto the glass. After drying a good product, there will be no streaks on the surface.

Important to rememberthat the most dangerous components in homemade alcohol are fusel oils.

Follow the distillation technology in the manufacture of moonshine: maintain optimal temperature parameters, regularly replace the water cooler, etc.

As for the finished product, many methods have been invented to clean it and improve its flavor and aroma: from filtration and straining to the infusion of alcohol on herbs, citrus fruits, honey, hops, and special preparations.

The drink is filtered in different ways: through special household devices, through multilayer gauze fabric, coal and cotton wool.

Soften – glucose, fructose, “ascorbic”, “lemon”, burnt sugar and glycerin.

Potassium permanganate cleaning

For 3 liters of moonshine, 2-3 grams of potassium permanganate is required. Before use, the drug can be diluted in water (1:100) and add 1 tablespoon of salt and soda to it.

Method of application

  1. Throw potassium permanganate into alcohol.

  2. Wait for the sediment to fall.

  3. Carefully drain the moonshine through a cotton filter.

Charcoal cleaning

The best effect has wood pulp obtained in the process of burning birch logs, and household coal filters for water. But you can also use ordinary coconut, mangal, activated charcoal: for 1 liter of moonshine you will need 50 g of the product.

Option 1

  1. Ceiling coal, throw in alcohol.

  2. Let the mixture brew for 1 to 3 weeks, stirring occasionally.

  3. Pass the drink through a cotton-gauze filter.

  4. Repeat the process several times, replacing the coal mass with fresh for each stage.

Option 2

  1. Make a funnel from several cotton layers, finely and coarsely crushed coal.

  2. Cover the last coal seam with cotton pads.

  3. Pass the moonshine of the first distillation through the funnel.

Option 3

  1. Kindle a fire from birch logs.

  2. After the firewood burns out, throw the hot coals into an earthen vessel, blow off the ashes.

  3. Seal the container with a lid, wait until the coals are completely extinguished, remove them from the pot, cool and coarsely ceiling.

  4. Skip the moonshine through the coal mass or throw it into a container with a drink (filter after 3 weeks).

Cleaning with milk/egg white

To purify and soften alcohol, pasteurized milk of low fat content (up to 1,5%) is used: 20 glass is required for 1 liters of moonshine / vodka.

If after filtering the drink is cloudy, you need to throw in it the skin from the citrus fruit for 1 day.

When using egg peel for 3 liters of an alcoholic product, take 2 proteins and beat them in 1 glass of warm water.

Method of application

  1. Add milk / protein mass to alcohol, shake.

  2. Cover the container with a lid, take it to a dark corner at room temperature for 1 week.

  3. During the first 5 days, stir the drink regularly, do not touch it for the last 2 days.

  4. Pass moonshine through a multi-layered cotton filter.

Freeze cleaning

A side effect of this method is an increase in the strength of the product.

Method of application

  1. Pour alcohol into a saucepan with a lid, send to the freezer.

  2. Wait half a day, drain the purified drink.

  3. Additionally, you can filter alcohol through a sieve and a paper funnel.

Soda cleaning

This option helps eliminate acetic acid. For 1 liter you will need 10 grams of baking soda.

Method of application

  1. Pour soda into alcohol.

  2. Leave on for 12 hours.

  3. Filter through cotton wool.

Oil cleaning

It will take 20 grams of vegetable oil per 1 liter of alcohol.

Method of application

  1. Pour the oil into the moonshine.

  2. Shake the vessel 6 times with an interval of 5 minutes.

  3. Let the drink stand for half a day.

  4. Carefully drain the alcohol through a straw.

  5. Filter the drink through cotton wool.

Cleaning with bread

This method is considered one of the most natural and effective. The drink not only becomes clearer, but also acquires a more pleasant aroma and taste. A simple cleaning with charcoal or protein is required beforehand. For 1 liter of moonshine / alcohol there are 100 grams of rye crumb, which is finely chopped before use.

Method of application

  1. Pour bread crumble into alcohol and mix thoroughly.

  2. Close the vessel tightly, take it to the dark and cool for half a week.

  3. Filter the infusion without squeezing the bread mass.

Purification and flavoring with fruits/herbs/spices

These methods not only help to eliminate impurities, but also improve the taste and aroma properties of the product, give it a beautiful color. In addition to the above recipes, they use the infusion of moonshine on leaves and flowers of wormwood, currant buds, various fruits, violet root.

Option 1

For 3 liters of alcohol you need 1 apple / carrot / citrus fruit.

Method of application

  1. Coarsely chop the fruit / vegetable, throw in alcohol.

  2. After a couple of days, when the exfoliation of plant fibers begins, remove the vegetable / fruit.

  3. Pass the drink through the filter.

Option 2

In the process, a drink similar to cognac is obtained. The list of components can be modified by adding and removing some of them. Also used: hot pepper, cinnamon, instant and ground coffee.

Ingredients

  1. Moonshine – 3 l

  2. Sugar – 1 st. l.

  3. Dry tea – 1 tbsp. l

  4. Bay leaf – 3 pcs.

  5. Black peppercorns – 5 pcs.

  6. Carnation – 4-6 pcs.

  7. Vanillin – a pinch

  8. Lemon / orange peels – 2-4 pcs.

Method of preparation

  1. Put all the solid components in a gauze flap, tie with a bag.

  2. Place the knot in a container with alcohol, stand for 10 days, remove.

  3. Filter the drink.
