Everyone knows the phrase: “My tongue is my enemy.” But we remember her only by saying too much. Unfortunately, we do not always feel when it is necessary to stop, and in vain, because in some cases it is much smarter to remain silent. We tell you what topics you should not start a conversation about.
Some people for some reason believe that it is imperative to share their experiences. Be careful when revealing the details of your personal life, you risk harming yourself. It would be nice to remember when it’s best to keep your mouth shut. There are topics that should not be covered. Sometimes it’s hard to hold back, but you can try to talk about it less often. In any case, do not spread the secret around the world.
1. Other people’s secrets and unpleasant facts about others
Most scorn gossipers, especially those who are not accustomed to prying into other people’s business. In addition, talkers broadcast their insolvency, trying to win recognition by compromising someone. But negative information always carries negative energy, which unsettles both those who hear it and those who spread it. Wise people prefer to keep such information to themselves, because no one will benefit from their dissemination.
2. Personal property
Some people are incredibly vain. They always brag about their house, car, clothes, influential acquaintances, in a word, everything that money can buy. This behavior indicates low self-esteem. Those who at every step repeat about what they own have a serious personality disorder. They try to show strength and attract attention by talking about property, connections and other nonsense. From the outside, they look obsessed with material goods. In fact, these are just small souls who worship things and power.
3. Who earns how much
It is better not to talk about income, this topic should not be discussed publicly, if only because we are not aware of someone else’s financial situation. As a rule, people who are depressed and unsure of themselves, those who need constant approval, speak about material well-being more often. They are not interested in anything but money.
4. Plans for the future
It’s okay to be proud of your accomplishments. Well, if you are satisfied with yourself and success. It has been scientifically proven that long-term goals are more likely to be achieved by those who keep them secret. The probability of making a wish come true is reduced if everyone knows about it. When we share plans with others, it seems as if they have already come true: the brain plays a cruel joke with us, forcing us to believe in what is not there, decides that we are almost at the goal, although this is not so. A false sense of victory destroys the momentum towards success.
5. Good deeds
It is wonderful that there are people in the world who do worthy deeds and help others. However, others are always looking for a reason to trumpet their good deeds to the whole world. There are those who try to disguise their boasting with a tear-jerking story about saving the poor and the sick. Remember: “Do good and throw it into the water”? Constantly ranting about how generous and compassionate you are is not magnanimous.
6. Beliefs and Preferences
Some of us are deeply religious, others are passionate about sports, others practice different types of meditation. Sometimes we get too carried away trying to impose our beliefs. This is how intolerant people act, who see the world only from their bell tower. With such an interlocutor it is impossible to communicate and make friends.
7. Bold deeds
Real heroes don’t talk about their heroism. They do what they consider duty, not for the sake of loud glory, but because kindness, responsiveness and courage live in them. They cannot do otherwise and do not count on rewards. Courageous deeds become known thanks to eyewitnesses. No need to brag about heroism and talk about your courage and humanity, let others do it.
8. Family problems
Problems happen in every family, and outsiders do not have to take part in them. Relatives can be ashamed and embarrassed because we decided to relieve our souls and brought family troubles to public court. This step won’t help, so let’s keep everything a secret. There is a huge difference between asking for help and idle chatter. If attention and advice is needed, it is best to share with a friend or therapist. But to give a reason for slander is useless.
Everyone needs to learn two rules: to be honest and not to talk in vain. One of the laws of positive thinking is to try to tell the truth, but remember that not everything is meant for other people’s ears. Do not forget that even the best friends get tired of listening to our personal secrets endlessly.
