As we say, the rich have their quirks. Some of these quirks are pretty cute, by the way.
Last year, the documentary “Serving Kings: The Inside Out” was released. It was created by the former butler of Princess Diana Paul Burrell, who revealed the rather bizarre habits of Prince Charles and his requirements for domestic staff. For example, it requires the bathroom plug to always be in the same position. And that’s not the only oddity of members of the world’s most famous royal family.
1. Perfect laces
We have an ironic saying: “Now, I will stroke the laces.” For us, it means that we do not intend to jump and run to do something immediately. And for the servants of Prince Charles, it’s a daily routine. He requires the laces to be ironed – every day. In addition, when the prince goes to wash, there should be a paste on his brush – a piece exactly one inch long. Of course, the bathtub must be filled with water of a certain temperature.
2. Hygiene comes first
The Prince of Wales changes clothes five times a day. In the room at the time of changing his clothes, the butler will always be waiting for him, whose duty is to give clothes to the prince so that he deigns to get dressed. But this is not the biggest oddity. The ex-butler claimed that the prince was so concerned about hygiene that he took his own toilet seat with him everywhere. However, later representatives of the royal family denied this statement. But that Prince Charles once got a toilet seat made of white leather for Christmas by his sister is a fact.
3. Hunting for mice
One of Queen Elizabeth’s cute pastimes is catching bats. She is said to be devoted to him when she lives in her Scottish castle, Balmoral. Bats, by the way, are protected here. Therefore, they are not killed, but simply chased – like pigeons. A long pole, rope and the company of a footman are all you need to enjoy your time in the bat-infested castle.
4. Cake rule
Royal family etiquette extends to literally everything, including the wedding meal. The rules dictate that the cake made in honor of the wedding must certainly be fruity. By the way, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle even managed to break this tradition. They ordered a lemon cake with elderberry and cream frosting for the wedding. By the way, the queen herself prefers chocolate cake.
6. Weighing in at Christmas
This is a very funny tradition that our grandmothers would surely have liked. It turns out that in the royal family it is customary to weigh themselves before and after Christmas dinner. It is believed that this tradition goes back to the time of King Edward VII – this is the middle of the century before last. The monarch was very worried that the guests were eating poorly, and therefore preferred to personally make sure that everyone had a good taste of the food served.
7. Used shoes
Funny to say, the queen doesn’t wear new shoes. Yes, there are more than one pair of shoes in her wardrobe. Moreover, the same firm has been making shoes for the Queen for decades. But before the new pair is put on by Elizabeth II herself, the shoes are carried by one of the servants. After all, this is not the case: calluses on royal legs! Elizabeth II still spends a lot of time on her feet, participating in all kinds of events and social events. But she recently celebrated her 93rd birthday! It must be difficult for her to be given such loads. And uncomfortable shoes will be completely superfluous here.
