7 warming drinks that not many people know about

It’s getting cold fast. Soft drinks are being replaced by warming ones, which are not limited to mulled wine and grog. We offer you recipes for such drinks.

Our man prefers to warm himself with vodka. The irony is that it should be drunk cold. Yes, and it warms only in folk tales. It is much more pleasant to wrap yourself in a warm favorite blanket, settle in a comfortable chair, take a book and a cup of hot mulled wine. But, as they say, not only mulled wine. We offer you 7 warming alcoholic drinks that will help raise the temperature of a chilled body and overcome the first signs of a cold.

Hot apple cider

The best thing about this drink is that you can make your own cider for it. We have a recipe for this. If you heat the cider, add a little bourbon and spices to it – you get a magnificent drink, in no way inferior to mulled wine.

Ingredients:

  • 2 liter apple cider
  • 120 ml orange juice
  • 250 ml bourbon
  • 2 Art. l. Sahara
  • 2 tsp. carnation buds
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 hours. L. nutmeg

How to cook:

Combine cider, orange juice, sugar, cloves, cinnamon and ground nutmeg in a saucepan. Heat over low heat for 15 minutes. Strain through a strainer and add the bourbon. Pour into cups and garnish with a cinnamon stick or orange slice. Instead of bourbon, you can use inexpensive brandy or whiskey.

Romfustian

An old drink that was served only on the most “successful” pirate ships. The full name is Bumbo Romfastian (Bumbo is a separate drink, the closest relative of grog). Romfastian consists mainly of gin, ale and sherry (sherry), which are mixed with raw eggs and spices. At one time, English athletes warmed themselves with this drink. This recipe dates back to 1862.

Ingredients:

  • 12 eggs
  • 1 liter ale or strong beer
  • 0,5 liters of gin
  • 0,7 liters of sherry
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 grated nutmeg
  • 12 st. l. heaping sugar
  • 1 lemon

How to cook:

Separate the yolks and beat them well. Add them to a liter of ale and pour half a liter of gin into it. Pour a bottle of sherry into a small saucepan, add cinnamon, nutmeg, zest of one lemon and 10-12 tablespoons of sugar (can be replaced with large pieces of cane in the same amount). Boil the wine and pour over the gin and beer. Drink hot.

Tom and Jerry

This warming cocktail has nothing to do with the cartoon of the same name. It was invented in the middle of the century before last by the writer Piers Egan in support of the play “Tom and Jerry”, based on his book “Life in London”. But the recipe for the classic Tom and Jerry was none other than “Professor Jerry Thomas – one of the fathers of mixology. In the 60s, this drink was served in special ceramic cups with the name of the cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large chicken eggs
  • 2,5 Art. l. Sahara
  • 250 ml + 1 tbsp. l. Jamaican dark rum
  • 1,5 hours. L. vanilla extract
  • a pinch of ground allspice
  • a pinch of ground cinnamon
  • pinch of ground cloves
  • 600-650 ml milk
  • 1 tsp. grated nutmeg

How to cook:

Separate the whites from the yolks. Beat the yolks with sugar, 1 tbsp. l. Jamaican dark rum, vanilla extract, allspice, cinnamon and cloves. Separately, beat the whites into foam, then combine them with the yolks. Mix everything well again. Put 1,5 tbsp. l. the resulting mass into a glass with thick walls, then pour 4 tbsp. l. rum and top with milk. Mix the cocktail well until foamy and sprinkle with grated nutmeg on top. Fill the rest of the glasses in the same proportions.

The classic of the genre is traditional mulled wine.

Also don’t forget to try real grog.

There are other alternatives to mulled wine, glög, for example. You can find his recipe here.

Tom and Jerry takes some skill to cook, but the work is worth it. Some people do not like the strongly rich taste of milk, so they dilute it by half with boiling water.

Негус (Negus)

One of the oldest warming drinks. It is believed that it was invented by Colonel Francis Negus, a great expert in heraldry. It happened either during the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714) or George I (1714-1727). In any case, this happened before 1732, since it was in this year that the colonel passed away (it must be said at an advanced age).

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemon
  • 2 Art. l. Sahara
  • 1 bottle of port
  • nutmeg to taste
  • water

How to cook:

Cut the zest from the lemon, trying to touch the white skin as little as possible. Place the zest in a small saucepan, add the lemon juice, sugar and a bottle of port. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add 1 cup boiling water (200-250 ml) and strain into a pitcher. Serve hot.

Wine for this drink should not be expensive and aged – young fruit will be just right.

Winter Julep

The official sponsor of The Kentucky Derby – Mint Julep – has a version for the cold. Peppermint tea should be added instead of ice.

Ingredients:

  • 45 ml bourbon
  • 25 ml cane sugar syrup
  • 1 tsp mint tea
  • hot water

How to cook:

First, pour hot water into a cup or glass with thick walls, wait 5 minutes and pour it out. Brew mint tea in 150 ml of hot water for 4 minutes. Strain, add bourbon and sugar syrup to tea. Stir and drink. To make sugar syrup, simply pour cane sugar one by one with boiling water, stir and let it cool.

  • 1 part brandy
  • 1 part hot egg liqueur
  • whipped cream

How to cook:

Pour brandy and egg liqueur warmed up on the stove into a glass of Irish. Stir and top with whipped cream. Cream can be sprinkled with chocolate. Drink hot, burying your nose in the cream.

Japanese jasmine sake

If you love Japanese cuisine, drinks in particular, be sure to try this wonderful warming cocktail. It is prepared on the basis of sake, jasmine tea and lemon.

Ingredients:

  • 100 ml sake
  • 1 lemon (lime)
  • 2 cubes of cane sugar
  • Jasmine tea

How to cook:

Rub the sugar cubes on the lemon to absorb the essential oils from the zest. Heat the sake, add sugar to it and stir well to dissolve the sugar. Pour the sake into a mug and top up with freshly brewed jasmine tea. You can add a couple of lemon slices if you like.
