7 skin clearing myths

What could be easier than daily washing! However, there are more misconceptions on this topic than you might think. Let’s take a look at the seven most common ones.

Myth 1: You need to wash your face more often

Wash your face twice a day:

  1. evening – to remove the remnants of makeup and impurities accumulated on the skin during the day;

  2. in the morning – to cleanse the skin of excess sebum, dead cells.

With very dry skin, washing with water can be done only in the evening.

Of course, after a workout that makes you sweat, you also need to wash yourself.

As for the care of oily skin, it does not mean more frequent washing, but a competent three-stage cleansing twice a day:

  • thorough waterless cleansing or make-up remover;

  • washing with a gel or foam;

  • use of an alcohol-free tonic.

Cleansing is not as easy a step in skincare as it might seem.

Myth 2: You need to wash your face with cold water

No. Many rub their skin with an ice cube and consider it their beauty recipe – their right. But it is not necessary to distribute such advice to friends and acquaintances, such hardening will not benefit everyone. Very cold water is stressful for the skin. Blood vessels narrow and, with a certain predisposition, become brittle, which can lead to the appearance of a vascular network.

It is most useful to wash your face with lukewarm water at a comfortable temperature – not too hot, not too cold.

Myth 3: Soft washing is washing without water.

Yes and no. Indeed, waterless cleansing of the skin with the help of hydrophilic oils, micellar water, and milk can be considered the most gentle. But in matters of beauty and health of the skin, rely only on your feelings: if after waterless cleansing of the skin you do not feel that the skin has become clean, wash your face with water and foam – it is more delicate than a gel.

If tap water causes skin irritation, you can use mineral or regular bottled drinking water.

Myth 4: if makeup removal is not required, you can immediately wash your face

No. After a hard day (exercise, heat, polluted city air) or after sleep (at night, the skin actively removes toxins), a preliminary cleansing step with micellar water or another waterless cleanser is relevant.

This is especially important for oily, problematic skin: in order not to smear dirt and make-up residue on the face, you must first remove them. And then proceed to cleansing the skin.

You can wash not only with tap water, but also with mineral water.

Myth 5: Micellar water is an alternative to washing

No. First, the application of micellar water requires some patience. To remove impurities completely, it will not work to run the disk over the face once. Secondly, after a micellar product, the skin often leaves a feeling of a film that you want to wash off. This is normal – wash off on health. If the task is not to use water under any circumstances, then after micellar water it is necessary to treat the skin with a tonic (it will complete the cleansing, restore the pH of the skin and prepare it for a more effective perception of subsequent care products).

Cosmetologists say: after cleansing the skin with micellar water, you should definitely wash your face, even if the label says otherwise. Regular use of micellar formulations without rinsing will lead to dryness and irritation of the skin.

Myth 6: Cleansers are not maintenance, they only remove impurities

Fortunately, the production of cosmetics is developing by leaps and bounds, and there are already skin care substances even in cleansers – just look at their composition. Ingredients often include:

  • oils that nourish and restore the skin;

  • vitamins;

  • moisturizing ingredients.

Myth 7: You don’t need moisturizing care after a cream-gel cleanser.

In this case, the confusing word “cream” only defines the texture of the product – it will act more gently on the skin. It does contain emollients and moisturizers, but in exactly the amount that will provide the skin with the most gentle contact with water and help avoid overdrying.

Immediately after cleansing, apply toner followed by cream or serum plus cream.
