7 secrets of successful makeup from Elena Krygina

The Audrey publishing house published a book by top makeup artist and blogger Elena Krygina “Makeup”. As in the video tutorials on YouTube, the author focuses on step-by-step instructions for creating various images and applying certain products.

We have selected tips that will be useful when creating any make-up option: from the most natural to expressive evening. They will help both those who skillfully handle decorative cosmetics, and those who are just starting to master it.

1. Tune in to a specific result

“The biggest mistake women make is that they sit down to make up without a purpose,” writes Elena Krygina and clarifies that a professional makeup artist always imagines the final result in advance and knows exactly which products he will use. Lack of ideas leads to unnecessary layers, corrections and rework.

In order not to experiment on yourself every day, you need to develop a personal algorithm for creating an everyday look. For this, of course, you have to practice. But then such a make-up will take a few minutes.

2. Convenient location

Doing makeup in a dark bathroom or hallway, looking into a small mirror, is inconvenient and impractical. Set up a dressing table with a good mirror and the right light. Arrange the necessary funds on it. “It will be a place where you can relax and calmly take care of yourself,” the author advises.

3. The right light

Most women do their makeup in front of a window in natural light. The problem is that even in cloudy weather, “natural light refracting through the window glass illuminates the face, gives the skin a dull cold tint and emphasizes imperfections that are by and large imperceptible.”

As a result, you run the risk of applying extra layers of cosmetics and instead of natural makeup, you will get multi-layered or untidy. The ideal option is to have a mirror with light bulbs at home, as in real dressing rooms and good salons. Or just do makeup under artificial lighting.

4. Good mood

Haste and negative emotions are the main enemies of perfect makeup. “If you’re in a bad mood, limit yourself to peach-colored cream blush. At the very least, people around you will think that it (mood) you have is better than it really is.

5. Quality tools

The result largely depends on the quality of the brush. Use the applicators that come with shadows or blush, only as a last resort. If you do makeup every day, it’s wise to have a good set of tools. Saving is not worth it! A good brush with proper care will last for many years.

An elasticity test will help you choose a good brush: place the brush perpendicular to the back of your hand and press several times

The elasticity test will help you choose it. “Place your hand perpendicular to the back of your hand and apply pressure several times. If the villi quickly parted in different directions, then such a brush is no good: cosmetics from it will crumble even before contact with the skin, and you can forget about shading at all. The ideal brush retains its springy shape even under strong pressure.” And one more important advice from Elena: “It is better to use special shampoos and soap for washing brushes.”

6. Skin preparation

Before proceeding with makeup, the skin must be thoroughly cleansed (even if it does not have makeup on), and then toned. Tonic gently exfoliates the top layer of the skin, smoothes it, removes the remnants of cleansers and gives a feeling of freshness.

Primer, cream and foundation must be on the same basis – water or fat

The next mandatory step is to apply the care product. Here it is necessary to observe the following rule: “Primer, cream and foundation must be on the same basis – water or fat.” Oil doesn’t react with water, so a moisturizing fluid foundation won’t stick well over an oil-based cream. It is best to use it at night.

7. Color choice

“Any color suits any person. This is the law! – says the author. The division into color types “autumn”, “winter”, “spring” and “summer” has long been outdated. Often, girls confuse “color does not fit” with “color does not match with other colors of the whole image” and are afraid to use it. It is not right.

No need to try to find one single shade that will solve all the questions and is suitable for any situation. Make a list of your favorite colors that surround you in life. They are the most suitable. And try to stick to one scale – warm or cold. So, “if you like chocolate shades in makeup, peach blush and golden glow of the skin, cold lilac lipstick will spoil the harmony of the makeup and look ugly against their background.”
