7 secrets of how to get slim

Feelings of hunger are often false. And these deceptive sensations make us eat more than our body needs, leading to improper nutrition and, as a result, to excess weight. But the situation can be changed. WDay.ru learned 7 secrets of harmony.

Rules of California pistachios

The Pistachio Rules is a set of simple methods for keeping weight in check without giving up your favorite foods, developed by nutritional behavior expert Dr. James Painter, professor, chairman of the Family Institute and consumption of the University of Illinois.

According to Dr. Painter, many of us rely on deceptive sensations and give in to a false sense of hunger. And in order to be full and not gain excess weight, you just need to follow simple rules.

How to get slimmer

  1. Use visual reminders. For example, nuts are a great snack, but you need to choose carefully. We eat unpeeled nuts longer, while a pile of empty shells acts as a visual “reminder” showing how many nuts were eaten. According to Dr. Painter’s research, a pile of empty pistachio shells can cut your calorie intake by 45%!

  2. Remember that healthy food does not mean non-nutritive. Often, a large number of calories come from foods that we consider healthy (for example, olive oil, which is known to be healthier than butter).

  3. Use smaller dishes (plates, cups, glasses). This will allow you to eat less and feel less hungry. By choosing long, narrow glasses instead of wide and low glasses, you will drink less and feel fuller.

  4. Buy less. Give preference to small bags of chips and small chocolates and avoid the “family” packages. Studies prove that this way you can reduce the amount of calories consumed by 22%!

  5. Choose the right setting and company. Dr. Painter believes that bright lighting and fast music make us eat faster and thus consume more calories. And dining in a large company, you will eat more than alone.

  6. Don’t chase variety. By limiting choices, we curb hunger. This partly explains why we eat so much at buffets.

  7. Keep “impulse” food away. Put chocolate, candy, and other snacks in the cupboard. Make sure you have healthy foods such as nuts, fruits, and vegetables on hand. For example, California pistachios: 30 of these nuts contain only 100 kcal.
