7 reasons to throw out your pillow now

How many months are yours? Or maybe it’s not about months, but about years?

Experts say that the maximum life of a pillow is a year or two, depending on the material with which it is stuffed. Feather and down pillows last six months. Long-livers – pillows made of modern synthetic materials such as latex, they can last up to five years. If the pillow lasts longer, it becomes just nasty: it absorbs all the care products that you apply before bed, dead skin cells and hair accumulate in it. And it’s not just hygiene! There are at least 7 reasons to change a pillow that is more than a year old.

May cause allergies …

Bacteria and dust mites happily multiply in the care products and skin cells deposited in the pillow filler. The latter cause many troubles: allergies, runny nose, always stuffy nose, sneezing and tears. To get rid of mites, it is advised to wash the pillow in hot water every 4-6 months. More precisely, in this way you will reduce the number of parasites, but not completely destroy. The only way out is to throw out the pillow. By the way, there are so many microorganisms, dust and other dirty tricks in old pillows that their weight is up to a third of the weight of the entire pillow.

… and bronchial asthma

When we regularly breathe in germs, fungal spores, etc., they begin to accumulate in the lungs. To get rid of them, the bronchi begin to vigorously produce mucus, saturated with antibodies, which are designed to fight the “aliens”. This reaction is due to the characteristics of human immunity. And everything ends with bronchial asthma – yes, because of some kind of pillow.

Snoring and sleep apnea

When the nose is stuffed up, it becomes simply impossible to sleep: sleep is superficial, since it depends heavily on breathing. If you breathe through your mouth, then it’s no wonder you start snoring. Sometimes snoring leads to sleep apnea – a temporary stop in breathing, which has a detrimental effect on health. Your throat dries up, you wake up every now and then to drink some water, or even the cough starts to torment … But it’s all about the pillow.

Provokes a headache

The pillow is not only about hygiene, but also about the position of the body in a dream. A good pillow should keep your head and neck level with your spine. Due to the fact that the pillow loses its shape over time, it no longer provides good support, and you end up waking up with a headache, neck or shoulder pain. Or, by the middle of the day, an unexplained migraine suddenly begins.

Decreases sleep

Stuffy nose, uncomfortable – what kind of sleep quality can we talk about? The sheet is crumpled in the morning, the pillow is thrown away – if you wake up this way more often than once a week, think about what you sleep on. Sleep quality matters more than many people think.

Causes acne …

The pillow is quite capable of degrading the quality of the leather. All the same parasites living in the pillow can provoke acne, acne, the skin becomes even more oily. The easiest way to deal with this misfortune is to change the pillowcase, if not every day, then every two days for sure. But sooner or later this will not be enough.

… and aspergillosis

What kind of beast is this? And this is a disease that develops due to the inhalation of the spores of the fungus that inhabits your pillow. Normally, they are harmless to humans. But if a person has lung disease, a weakened immune system, or has a severe form of flu, these spores can cause infection by invading the lungs and even other organs, entering the bloodstream. Symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, and coughing up blood. The course of the disease can be very difficult, especially if it is not diagnosed in time.
