Oral infections are most often caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. They do not always require medical consultation. If we react quickly enough, when the first symptoms appear, there is a chance that we will be able to deal with them on our own.
In the event of additional ailments, such as fever, cough or runny nose, it is necessary to consult a doctor, as this may mean an advanced development of the infection and the need for pharmacological treatment. However, when the lesions in the oral cavity are small, and we feel:
- sore throat,
- difficulty swallowing
- we have hoarseness,
- we will observe minor ulcerations or small purulent infiltrates,
It is worth trying to deal with them at home in the first place. Check if you know which ones.
- A solution of baking soda in waterTo prepare it, dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 0,5 cups of warm, boiled water. Rinse the mouth with the solution prepared in this way. Soda has a strongly alkaline reaction, thanks to which it neutralizes the acids present in the throat, which can irritate its mucous membranes.
- Herbal infusions of sage, chamomile, oak bark or elderberryIf you have any of these herbs on hand at home, it is worth brewing them and making mouth rinses at least several times a day. Herbs have strong antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties and protect against excessive drying of the mucous membrane.
- Tea wrapsFor them, use a previously brewed, moist and warm tea bag, which is applied to the painful surface. Tea, like baking soda, neutralizes acids, and additionally has antioxidants that have a beneficial effect on irritated mucous membranes.
- Aloe juiceFreshly extracted aloe vera juice, which is often a household ornamental plant, has strong soothing and regenerating properties. Thanks to local juice compresses, the irritated mucous membrane will be less painful and will heal faster.
- BrineIt is boiled water with a small amount of common table salt. It is made in the following proportions: 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 cup of water. The solution is gargled several times a day, thanks to which the pain and other unpleasant ailments should subside. You just have to be careful not to let the liquid get into the esophagus.
- Hydrogen peroxideHowever, not alone, but in combination with plain water and baking soda. They are combined as follows: 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1/5 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of soda. The resulting solution will be perfect for throat disinfection, blocking the spread of inflammation.
- Hyperacidity medicationAs it has already been mentioned, the soreness of the oral cavity is exacerbated by the action of acids that we deliver to the mouth with food. Therefore, pain can also be reduced by tablets that neutralize gastric juices, which you may have in your home medicine cabinet.
