68% of obese people lose weight without yo-yo? – Dietetics – Articles |

Reasons for losing weight

Although the problem of obesity is closely related to the risk of many diseases, appearance turned out to be the most important for a person who struggles with kilograms. Until 84% of the respondents choose a slimming diet for the sake of improving their appearance, and only 11% for health reasons. This is what the results of our survey show. Is it because we are not fully aware of the health risks posed by excess body weight?

Maybe this is a good time to visualize it. Obesity is associated with the risk of, inter alia, such diseases as: diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart attack, atherosclerosis, neoplastic diseases. If you are obese, change your lifestyle for the better to avoid disease.

Diet used

In the maze of popular diets, we much more often decide to lose weight on our own, trying to limit the amount of food consumed. We use a so-called diet MŻ, or eat less. When this method fails, we look for other ways to lose weight. Some of us choose popular free slimming diets such as the Dukan, low-calorie or Copenhagen diets. However, a large number of people decide to lose weight with a specialist. As many as 68% of people lose weight on their own using:

  • MŻ diets (36%)
  • other readily available, mismatched diets, including miracle diets (32%).
  • the remaining 32% belongs to dietitians who watch over the course of weight loss both via the Internet and in direct contact, e.g. in the office.

Why this diet

Choosing the right diet for yourself largely influenced by the weight loss effects of our friends and relatives (41%). As many as 34% of slimming people choose a specific type of diet because they saw that someone they knew lost weight or a friend encouraged them to lose weight with their diet (7%). Important aspects in choosing a diet are also: its flexibility and safety.

Paid more effective?

Almost 80% of the respondents decide to lose weight, which does not involve expenses for composing the menu. Most of us prefer lose weight for free. It could also mean that we don’t like to follow person-specific diets. We prefer to experiment, thinking: “why not make it”, “if my friend has been helped by this diet, why should it not help me”. Or maybe we don’t want to lose weight by spending money on it, because slimming seems so simple and obvious, so we count on our own strength and our common sense.

Most people who are slimming believe that their way is effective and the kilograms are dropping. However, many of them are still on diets, so they don’t know yet if the effect will be permanent. Only less than 20% of respondents considered that the chosen method of losing weight did not bring any results. The effectiveness of paid and free diets was perceived by the respondents in the same way. The perception of the effectiveness of diets was not influenced by whether it is paid or not. Both their own weight loss methods and paid diets were perceived by the respondents at the same level of effectiveness.

Did the yo-yo effect appear after the end of the diet?

A lot of the subjects are still on a diet, so these people could not comment on whether the yo-yo effect appeared. However, among people who have already successfully lost weight in the form of weight loss, 32% declare that the yo-yo effect has occurred. A large majority of respondents (almost 70%) say that the diet has not ended with yo-yo. Weight gain can be fostered by, among others:

  • return to old habits,
  • overeating
  • poorly chosen slimming diet,
  • treating your diet as an episode in your life just to lose weight, not as a permanent change in your eating habits.

Safety of the diet used

Most people who are slimming, they believe, choose safe methods of losing weight. About 3% of the respondents rate the safety of their weight loss method as 1, on a scale of 1-5, where 5 means a safe and 1 – a dangerous method of losing weight.

If the chosen methods of losing weight are, according to the respondents, so effective, where does the growing problem of obesity in Poland come from? Too few people still care about proper eating habits? Do we downplay proper nutrition? We are not aware of the risk of obesity?

Let’s increase nutritional awareness and the fact of health risks related to obesity in our environment. The more this news spreads among Poles, the greater the chance of reducing the incidence of many diseases in Poland. Let’s take care of ourselves and our loved ones not only on October 24, which is the World Day of Combating Obesity.
