The famous paralympian, 60-year-old American Angela Madsen, was found dead during a rowboat trip from California to Hawaii.

The body of the athlete was found by the Coast Guard, but so far the official cause of death has not yet been announced.

Madsen wanted to be the first paralyzed woman in the world to cross the Pacific Ocean alone. Angela sailed off the coast of California in a 6-meter boat back in April. She regularly got in touch, and for the last time reported that she needed to go down into the water in order to fix a small breakdown.

Madsen eventually covered 1 km out of 787 needed. Her death was confirmed on social media by her husband, Debra.

“It is with great sadness that I must announce that Angela Madsen will not complete her solo move in Hawaii. The rescue plane saw her in the water, apparently dead, but was unable to transmit this information due to poor satellite coverage. She stopped responding to messages on Sunday. When I looked at the tracking, it didn’t look like she was driving the boat. It was rather drifting, ”Debra wrote.
