6 week of pregnancy from conception
Colossal changes occur with the baby and mother at the 6th week of pregnancy from conception – the child grows literally by the minute, every day he becomes more and more human

What happens to the baby at 6 weeks

At the 6th week of pregnancy, there is a lot of activity in the baby’s body. During this period, the nervous and respiratory systems of the child are actively developing, bronchi are formed in the lungs, and the optic nerve appears. The heart of the unborn child already has four chambers. The genitourinary system appears and develops, endocrine and salivary glands, bile ducts are laid.

The familiar facial features appear in the crumbs: nose, eyes, the upper and lower jaws are formed.

Fetal ultrasound

At week 6, mothers often do the first ultrasound of the fetus. On the screen, you can already see the beginnings of fingers on the hands and feet of the child, you can see the nose and closed eyes – the eyelids are not yet functioning.

The future baby begins to move, but the mother does not feel it yet. At the 6th week of pregnancy, it’s time to make up for the lack of iodine in a woman’s body. It is involved in the development of the bone and cartilage tissue of the baby. The lack of this trace element can adversely affect the development of the nervous and hormonal system of the crumbs.

– Ultrasound of the fetus at the 6th week of pregnancy, as a rule, pleases mothers. After all, if just a few weeks ago there was a bunch of cells in a fetal egg on the screen, now it is an embryo with human outlines, – explains obstetrician-gynecologist Dina Absalyamova.

An ultrasound will show that the woman’s uterus has already grown to the size of an orange, and the fetal sac in which the baby develops is about 3 cm in diameter.

Photo life

A baby at the 6th week of pregnancy is the size of a bean or a grape: its height is 14-20 mm, and its weight is only 3 grams. Obviously, a fetus of this size will not affect the appearance of the mother in any way. A photo of the abdomen at the 6th week of pregnancy shows that nothing is noticeable from the outside, the tummy is the same as before.

If a woman notices that she is slightly wider at the waist, this may be due to two factors: knowing about her situation, the expectant mother began to limit herself less in food, or intestinal motility worsened due to progesterone, which provoked bloating. Of course, this is not a very romantic explanation, but most often it is the increased gas formation that is the cause of the grown tummy.

What happens to mom at 6 weeks

At the sixth week of pregnancy, not only with the baby, but also with the mother, serious changes take place. The child grows and develops, drawing all the energy and nutrients from the body of a woman. This leads to a deterioration in the well-being of the expectant mother, she becomes lethargic and easily tired.

During this period, it is especially important to abandon the negative factors that can adversely affect the development of the child:

  • you need to give up smoking, and from passive too;
  • do not drink alcohol;
  • avoid heavy physical exertion and stress;
  • do not take medication without consulting a doctor;
  • do not take x-rays and any procedures involving radiation.

At the 6th week of pregnancy, changes also begin to occur in the appearance of a woman. Her breasts enlarge, become painful. Over time, the discomfort will pass, so you should not concentrate on them.

In those women who are prone to pigmentation, freckles appear, dark stripes around the navel, the areola of the nipples darken, and the nipples themselves become coarse.

Many pregnant women note that their skin and hair begin to look healthier, their texture and color improve.

What sensations can you experience in 6 week

Most of the sensations that a pregnant woman may experience at week 6 are associated with a growing uterus and hormonal changes. At this time, women most often experience the following manifestations of pregnancy:

  1. Nausea and vomiting that usually occur in the morning. Fortunately, not all women overcome toxicosis, and by 10-11 weeks it disappears.
  2. Irresistible desire to eat something, sometimes unusual. What can you do – a growing child needs vitamins and minerals, and he dictates the mother’s diet.
  3. Drawing pains in the lower abdomen, which are associated with an increase in the uterus and sprains.
  4. Frequent urination is all for the same reason.
  5. Gastrointestinal disorders caused by the pregnancy hormone progesterone.
  6. Weakness and dizziness.
  7. Sharp mood swings.

Monthly

During the period of bearing a child, menstruation usually stops. There are times when women whose cycles are irregular do not notice pregnancy. Their vigilance can be lulled by bleeding during implantation of the fetus, which is similar to scanty menstruation.

If the expectant mother is aware of her situation, any unusual vaginal discharge should puzzle her. They can mean inflammation or pathology in the development of the fetus, and both require an urgent visit to the doctor.

The reasons for the appearance of blood can be different:

  • the body rejects the fetus;
  • too little progesterone or too much androgens;
  • there are infections that can cause fetal death or miscarriage.

Stomach ache

Almost every expectant mother faces abdominal pain while expecting a baby. Most often, these pains occur due to an increase in the size of the uterus and have a pulling character.

Discomfort can be caused by problems with the gastrointestinal tract. As already mentioned, the pregnancy hormone progesterone affects intestinal motility, causing constipation and increased gas formation – hence the pain in the abdomen. Such troubles are not a reason to run to the doctor, but pains can be different.

If the expectant mother is overcome by acute pain attacks that recur quite often, it is better to consult a doctor. It should also be done if the pain is prolonged and does not decrease over time. When the pain is accompanied by bloody discharge, it is no longer necessary to wait in line for a gynecologist, it is better to immediately call an ambulance. The threat of miscarriage is not uncommon in the first trimester – it is usually just accompanied by pain and bleeding.

Brown discharge

Any discharge that deviates from the norm should be an occasion for a conversation with a gynecologist. Only moderate light and milky discharge with a uniform texture is normal. All others are considered suspicious.

Brown discharge during pregnancy may not be dangerous when it comes to discharge during the implantation of the baby, but they can also be caused by sexually transmitted diseases, damage to the cervix, or the presence of a hematoma between the uterus and the tissue that nourishes the fetus.

In these cases, a consultation with a gynecologist is necessary so that the unborn baby does not suffer.

Bloody issues

Bloody discharge during pregnancy, like any other, can be caused by natural processes in the uterus. Sometimes scanty bleeding occurs when the fetus is attached to the uterine cavity.

However, there are more formidable reasons for the appearance of such secretions:

  • ectopic pregnancy, as a rule, is also accompanied by acute pain;
  • threatened miscarriage or a miscarriage that has begun;
  • frozen pregnancy;
  • damage to the vagina, for example, during sex;
  • diseases such as venereal diseases.

Light highlights

If they are moderate and odorless, then this is normal. Such secretions should be familiar to a woman, because during the period of ovulation they are not uncommon. However, some light discharge is not so harmless.

  1. Copious opaque, white-gray discharge with a fishy odor. They often serve as a sign of bacterial vaginosis, which occurs due to a violation of the normal microflora of the vagina.
  2. Cheesy, mushy white discharge with itching. These may indicate candidiasis, or thrush.
  3. Profuse, thin, frothy, yellow-green, offensive discharge. There can be many reasons for such discharges and all are disappointing: gonorrhea, chlamydia, Trichomonas.
  4. Abundant white or grayish discharge with a sour smell can be a sign of an excess of lactic acid bacteria.

All this is not the norm, if you notice such light discharge on your underwear, it is better to go to the doctor and take a smear. Infections of the genital tract can affect the development of the child.
