When they reach adulthood, many people are immune. On the other hand, toxoplasmosis is a real threat when you have it during pregnancy. It is transmitted in 40% of cases to the fetus. It can lead to abnormalities such as: mental retardation, hydrocephalus, jaundice… But also, to abortion, fetal death or premature birth. The later the toxoplasm (the parasite) is transmitted during pregnancy, the less severe the lesions.

What should alert you: you have a cat, eat raw meat, poorly washed vegetables or unpasteurized milk and / or you have flu symptoms (headache, fever or muscle pain). Your doctor will then order a blood test. The latter confirms the infection? You will be treated with antibiotics to reduce the likelihood of the disease being transferred to your baby. And if you are not immune, know that a monthly blood test will be taken to check for the absence of viruses.
