6 places you shouldn’t get a tattoo

It turns out that those who decide to get a tattoo need to take care not only of the idea and the master, but also to think carefully about where exactly the inscription or drawing should be done.

The art of artistic tattoos has existed since time immemorial and does not lose its relevance. By applying an image, some seek to challenge society, others want to imitate an idol, others – to complement the image, and still others go to the tattoo studio under the influence of emotions. Tattoo artist Alexandra Osminoga told the readers of Wday.ru how to choose a place for drawing, what taboos exist and why.

There are many reasons why people seek to beautify their skin. According to the French psychoanalyst Didier Anzier, a tattoo is a kind of communication language: through images applied to the body, people try to express the unspoken: to preserve memories, to convey feelings and emotions, and sometimes secret desires. Before applying for a service, someone chooses a drawing for a long time and thoughtfully, trying on it on the wrist, lower back or lower leg, and someone makes a choice spontaneously. And the task of the tattoo artist is not only to do the job efficiently, but also to tell you how to choose the right image and coordinate it with the place of application. Only in this case, the tattoo will complement the image and really become a highlight, and not spoil the impression.

What places should you avoid for those with low pain tolerance?

While getting a tattoo is painful, pain shouldn’t be the determining factor for someone looking to beautify their body. Therefore, it is important to simply tune in to what will have to be patient. If the question of where pain is manifested more, and where to a lesser extent, is relevant, you can find on the Internet the so-called “Pain map”… Of course, the pain threshold is different for everyone, but there are places that should be taken into account, for example, because there are bones and little adipose tissue nearby or lymph nodes are located. These include:

  • armpits;

  • elbows;

  • ribs;

  • lap.

But it is worth considering, firstly, that everything is very individual, and secondly, that painful areas differ in men and women. In addition, in women, the perception of pain depends on the day of the cycle. It is better to plan a session in the middle of it.

Where will a tattoo be dangerous to health?

There are several such zones:

  • areas affected by skin diseases (skin diseases are one of the contraindications): tattooing is done only during the period of remission. But it is important to understand that, for example, in the case of psoriasis, it is impossible to predict in which direction the disease will spread later, and if it affects the tattoo area, the image will look unpresentable;

  • birthmarks: if they fall into the area of the drawing, the master always bypasses them without injuring. In some cases, it is worth consulting a doctor before applying a tattoo;

  • skin prone to keloid scars;

  • fresh scars: to put a tattoo is possible only after the scar has completely healed;

  • phlebeurysm: over time, diseased vessels increase, which means that the image on them will change and turn into a distorted picture. It is better not to mask such a problem with a tattoo, but to treat it. But you can get a tattoo on other parts of the body;

  • whites of eyes – one of the most dangerous places for tattooing: fortunately, few clients decide to such an extreme, and not all masters take on the work. This is associated with a high degree of risk: in fact, the pigment is injected directly into the eyeball, which is fraught with loss of vision.

Where does the pigment stick poorly?

The pigment should not be applied to:

  • fingers;

  • Hands;

  • Feet.

In these places, rapid regeneration occurs (the skin is thin and prone to friction) and tattoos require constant correction. To maintain them, you may have to regularly visit the master, which will require not only time, but also financial costs. Often this leads to the fact that a person decides to remove a tattoo with a laser.

But if such difficulties do not stop, it is better to apply the drawing not with a tattoo machine, but using the hand poke technique. This is a more delicate technique, in which the master makes one-time injections with a needle, bringing in more pigment, and the skin is less injured, heals better, and the image does not “float” like that. It is worth working with the same technique in the case of tattooing on the ears or behind the ears, where the skin is very delicate.

Where is it better not to get a tattoo, because it looks unaesthetic?

It is important to consider that the place for tattooing must match the image, only then the drawing will look good. For example, at the bend of the elbow usually they place background details – a wave, a branch – something that will not deform during movement. And the object, which should be read in full, will be distorted on the moving part of the body. Therefore, on the fold, you should not depict a face, eyes, geometric objects or the frame that encloses the image.

This also applies to outside of the wristwhere it is difficult to place an ornament or other geometrically correct object, because with any movement they will look deformed. To determine the border of the tattoo on the inner side of the wrist (how close it should be to the wrist), you need to bend your palm at a right angle and mark with a pen where the lower fold ends. This is the border of the drawing: you should not apply it closer to the palm of your hand. The second option is to put 2 fingers to the lower border of the palm, this is the maximum possible distance for the location of the tattoo.

A separate topic – face: Due to the active lymph flow, tattoos on the face tend to look a little blurry, even if a professional artist takes over. It should also be taken into account that over time, the drawing will lose its brightness and clarity.

Not the best option is to tattoo mucous membranes, for example, on the inside of the lip: they are also not sturdy, and besides, they have no artistic value.

Jewelry such as a tattoo is not easy to get rid of. And in order for the tattoo to become a highlight, and not a problem, it is important not only to choose a drawing, but also to apply it to the part of the body on which it will look advantageous, and the procedure will not be so painful.
