Have you ever had this: dinner is almost ready, all that remains is to add sauce, but the damned jar does not open in any? And it’s good if there is a strong male shoulder nearby that you can rely on in this matter. And if not, then what, to starve now? In no case. We’ve put together six ways to open a jar, even with the tightest screw cap, if you don’t have the strength.

Add clutches

Glass jars can be quite slippery. So extra grip won’t hurt. So how do you open a screw top jar without an opener and knife? Try wrapping a small towel around the lid. If the towel twists when you try to open the lid, dampen it with water and try again. For the same purpose, rubber sponges or dish gloves, silicone potholders, and even a regular rubber band are well suited.

Put on gloves before grabbing the cap, or try pulling an elastic band over the cap. Just make sure the lidded jar is dry and clean. Grease or dust on the surface will complicate the task. Alternatively, for better adhesion, you can tape the lid with adhesive tape.

Knock

It is often difficult to open the jar due to the tight vacuum seal. Try this trick: flip the can on its side, then lightly pat the bottom of the can with the palm of one hand. If you hear cotton, then the seal is broken.

Alternatively, tap the lid with the handle of a heavy kitchen knife or a wooden rolling pin while rotating the jar. After that, the bank will open much easier. Method three: carefully insert the butter knife between the lid and the jar, pull the knife up like a lever. Just be careful not to break the jar so that glass fragments do not get into the product.

Add warmth

You tried to open the jar with a towel, knock on the bottom, but the lid still won’t budge. Then flip the jar on its side and dip the lid in hot tap water (don’t heat the entire jar – no one likes warm pickles). Rotate the jar so that all sides of the lid are wet. Hot water expands the metal, which means the lid will give up faster. By the way, you can use a hairdryer for the same purpose.

It happens that the lid is stuck due to sticky food. Try pushing it down with a knife handle or a heavier object. Tap on top and edges. Now try opening the jar again.

Four hands

Ask the other person to hold the jar with both hands and twist the lid with both hands. If no one else is at home, try opening the jar with a few tries to give your hands a rest. As a last resort, knock on neighbors for help.
