The problem of finding happiness is as old as the world. For many, this is the main purpose of life. They say, “Life is too short to be miserable.” Life coach Susanna Halonen talks about how to create a recipe for happiness.
Fortunately, they do not teach at school, but it’s a pity. As a child, no one told me what it was, no one taught me how to become happy – I learned about this only when I discovered positive psychology, which is also called the science of happiness. And I became so fascinated by it that I gave up a corporate career to get a master’s degree in psychology. Finally, I could get answers to questions about happiness and found people who told me how to achieve it.
I have come a long way and now I want to tell you about the main milestones on the path to happiness. They changed my life and turned me into an incorrigible optimist. Moreover, they have become my religion.
1. Learn what happiness is
How to do it? Study positive psychology to learn what happiness is scientifically and how to achieve it. Read books, take an online course, chat with an expert to get first-hand information.
2. Find your happiness
There is no universal recipe that suits everyone – you have to study yourself, figure out what brings you joy and satisfaction. It’s important to prioritize, define values, find your strengths, and set a goal to help you on your journey to happiness.
3. Tune in to the positive
Happiness largely depends on what goes on in our heads and how we perceive the world around us. Therefore, it is important to encourage a positive outlook on things. At the same time, remember: being positive does not mean ignoring and denying the negative. On the contrary, positive people are aware of the problems they face and believe they can overcome them. It is important to be honest with yourself about your feelings, knowing that everything will be fine.
4. Nurture the relationship
Everyone needs other people, and not only in order to survive, but also to live happily. It is important to take the time to create and maintain strong, conscious relationships with those we love.
5. Don’t forget your body
It is not designed to sit at a desk all day, so 8 hours in an office chair is unnatural. Try to get up from time to time, do stretching exercises, warm up.
The body influences the brain. From a lack of activity, we become sleepy and lethargic. And those who exercise daily and move a lot feel happier. And do not forget about the importance of smiles and hugs, they are able to cheer you up with lightning speed.
6. Find time to relax
While you are rushing from one thing to another, happiness will not be able to catch you. Try to slow down sometimes, reflect and just live. So you can understand yourself deeper and quickly find intuitive answers to questions that have been wrestling with for weeks.
There are many ways to make life happy. Of course, some changes take time, but if you act slowly and consistently, you will develop good habits that will fuel you and your strength. Being busy 24/7 is not something to strive for. Satisfaction with life occurs precisely during periods of slowdown.
