Hardly anyone likes frequent visits to the dentist. Therefore, in order to avoid them, appropriate prevention is key. By following these commandments for healthy teeth, you increase your chances of avoiding major dental interventions at the next dental check-up.
Brush your teeth well
It sounds like a cliché to remind you to brush your teeth at least twice a day. However, not everyone remembers about this principle. Going to sleep with dirty teeth is particularly dangerous for the hygiene of the oral cavity – then, at our own request, we lead to a situation where all night debris from dinner remains in the mouth and lead to the development of caries and periodontitis.
Don’t brush your teeth right after eating
The acids in some foods and fruits (mostly citrus) often have a low pH. The task of saliva is, among others equalization of the pH level in the mouth. So if we brush our teeth immediately after a meal, we don’t give saliva a chance to do our job and rub fruit acids into tooth enamel. So wait about 20-30 minutes or rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.
Use floss
Unfortunately, even the best brushing of teeth will not remove all the remaining food residues from them. Dental floss will help in removing soft plaque from the interdental spaces. There are various types of threads on sale – waxed or unwaxed, with or without fluoride, impregnated with fragrances. However, more important than the type of thread is that you use it properly. With sawing movements, the thread is gently guided at the point of contact between the teeth in the interdental space, up to the gingival margin, so as not to damage it. Dental floss can be used by children even from the age of 8, under the supervision of parents and if they have sufficient manual skills. We can also clean wide interdental spaces with toothpicks, but not to damage the gums.

Use mouthwash
We divide the rinses into two groups: the so-called cosmetic and medicinal. The first ones support mechanical cleaning of the teeth, reduce the amount of microorganisms in the oral cavity and have a refreshing effect, temporarily reducing unpleasant smell from the mouth. Medicinal ones, on the other hand, also contain active ingredients that prevent pathological conditions of the oral cavity or support their treatment.
Rinses are most often used after brushing and flossing the teeth for 30-60 seconds. After rinsing the mouth, for 30 minutes. you should refrain from eating, drinking and smoking.
Regular use of rinses reduces the level of bacteria in the mouth and limits the development of plaque.
Remember the correct order
First, we brush our teeth (2-3 minutes, dividing the jaw into four parts, allocating about half a minute for each part), you know. Secondly, we use a floss that removes food debris and plaque that the toothbrush couldn’t handle. Only at the very end do we rinse the teeth with the liquid.
Don’t forget the dentist
Even if you think you have healthy teeth, have healed all of them, and do not have any oral problems, dental checkups are a must. Specialists remind that we should make an appointment for preventive dental checkups every six months. The dentist guards the guarded.
