Headache or stomach ache? We endure with gritted teeth, or get rid of discomfort with the help of pain pills. But what if such pain can be relieved without medication? Let’s talk about five non-drug techniques for getting rid of pain.
If something hurts us, we start taking medicine. This method helps to quickly relieve pain. However, there is always a risk of relapse. In order to get rid of unpleasant sensations for a long time, one must understand the reason for their appearance, feel and live them.
We can learn to manage pain on our own. Our ancestors, who lived long before the invention of painkillers, escaped from pulling discomfort in the abdomen or shooting pain in the temples and lower back by methods that were passed down from generation to generation. Why don’t we study their experience?
1. Breathe deeply
One of the oldest medicines is breathing techniques. For example, pain can be “breathed through”. What does it mean? When we feel bad, uncomfortable, our breathing quickens, and then we cannot focus our attention, we get lost, get scared and want to get rid of this incomprehensible state as soon as possible. At such moments it is important to learn to “stretch” the breath.
If this happens, breathe slowly. When you start to experience pain, take the deepest possible breaths and the same exhalations. Breathe like this for a few minutes. With each repetition, you will feel how the pain recedes, “dissolves”, and you feel better.
Deep breathing helps the body to consume more oxygen, better nourish the cells. The method of deep breathing is resorted to during childbirth, when women experience severe pain in labor. Therefore, obstetricians try to explain to all expectant mothers in advance: proper breathing is the key to success.
2. “Wash” the pain
Problems in the neck and collar area often cause headaches. In other words, due to the tension of the muscles of the neck, the required amount of blood ceases to flow to the brain.
You can get rid of exhausting migraines, pain in the temples and pain in the eyes with the help of regular self-massage. If you massage your neck for at least 10-15 minutes a day, most of the unpleasant symptoms will go away after 2-3 days. Of course, before this, you should consult a doctor, do not engage in thoughtless self-medication.
If you do not treat persistent pain, “suppress” discomfort with pills, then the result may be ischemia of brain tissue and other dangerous complications.
Self-massage of the collar zone is a fairly simple procedure. You need to tightly wrap your fingers around the neck just below the back of the head and “move” down along the vertebrae. In this case, you need to “knead” the muscles with your fingers. Massage slowly, carefully. High-quality study of the back of the neck will relax the collar zone, improve the outflow of blood.
Often we feel pain around or above the eyeballs. In this case, a light facial massage will help. Particular attention should be paid to the superciliary arches. To relieve pain, you need to massage your eyebrows. This helps not only relieve eye fatigue, but also correct vision.
How to massage the superciliary arches? Place the index fingers of both hands on the points at the beginning of the eyebrows and start self-massage with smooth circular movements. It is important, starting each next circle, to lightly press on the selected point, it is advisable to hold your fingers for two seconds, increasing the pressure.
3.Kick wedge with wedge
To deal with pain, you have to…hit it with another pain. There is a rule: in order to relax as much as possible, you first need to strain as much as possible. The same goes for pain. Sometimes, in order to remove the pain, you need to intensify it.
For example, you feel that an unpleasant pull on your neck or lower back. Try to properly “wash” these areas with your hands. At first it will be unpleasant. But then the discomfort will pass, but the muscles will relax.
4. Work your arms and legs
Without a massage of the hands and feet, relaxation will not be complete, since our entire body is connected by the meridian system. On the palms and feet are points through which you can influence the entire body.
Hands play an important “energetic” role. With their help, we connect with the world – put them together in prayer, greet other people. Therefore, before self-massage, it is necessary to stretch each finger, because the fives correspond to our body: the thumb is the “head”, the index and little fingers are the “hands”, and the middle and ring fingers are the “legs”.
Therefore, stretching the brushes, we are working through our entire meridian system. In my practice, there was a case when a person who turned to me for help felt so bad that he literally could not get out of bed.
On my recommendation, every day for several minutes he clenched his fingers into a fist and unclenched it. As a result, I soon felt better. With this simple exercise, he activated the entire muscular and circulatory system. It would seem a simple technique, but sometimes it is enough to wake up the immune system and gain strength.
5. Move the pain to the center of the Hara
If you want to learn how to cope with pain on your own, you need to shift your attention away from unpleasant sensations. It’s like meditation: you need to close your eyes and imagine how the pain moves to the navel or a couple of centimeters below.
It is at this point that Hara is located – the center of human life energy. Once a person has mastered this technique, he will be able to quickly cope with pain.
In order for a person far from meditation to “move” the pain to the navel, he needs to lightly press his finger on the navel and start massaging the abdomen two centimeters below. This action will start the process of moving the center of attention, and with it the discomfort.
You need to massage with a little pressure in order to feel that the discomfort in this place has become more important and more tangible than the original pain. With severe pain, shifting attention is not so easy. But the more often you practice a skill, even for no apparent reason, the faster you will master it. Proper deep breathing will enhance the “pain relief” effect.
