5 ways systems changed restaurants in 2018

Unfortunately, restaurants have developed a bad reputation for being slow to adapt to change.

They’re not that wrong – it took us 100 years for a cash register to go electronic.

But it is no longer a luxury that we can afford: we live in a time of dizzying change thanks to technology.

The changes are so many that we no longer notice them. That is why I leave you five changes that we have seen (or will see) in the computer systems for restaurants this year …, and that we are only in the middle of the year.

1. Synchronization of mobile devices

The speed in the operation of restaurants has grown since the use of tablets has been generalized by staff: a person places an order, and the order is automatically received in the kitchen, when it is ready, the staff is notified to to place it on the corresponding table.

Also, thanks to POS, it is not necessary to centralize everything in a main cash register for payments.

We walked, without brakes, to the disappearance of the main cash register.

2. Flexible payment methods

Yes, credit cards are still the main method of payment, but mobile payment in restaurants is increasing at a very fast rate.

It is estimated that by 2020, mobile phones will be used more to pay for a meal than a credit card.

A study by Forrester says that only 17% of restaurants accept all types of payment by mobile, and those that implement it, grow in sales up to 180% for restaurants that personalize the payment method in a total way.

3 Self-service

Computer systems now allow restaurants to offer self-services: DK Sushi, Honeygrow or Spyce allow self-service and thus employees focus on serving diners in a more calm and personalized way.

According to QSR magazine, only 18% of customers have used a self-service food service, but 60% would consume it if they saw it available with mobile payment.

4. Better data to analyze and make decisions

You cannot improve what you do not measure.

Modern computer systems, and no longer unattainable, are making analytics the norm for restaurants. An industry magazine in New York found that 78% of the city’s most visited restaurants checked their metrics daily.

Businesses have to keep a close eye on their workforce, cost of sales, sales, and inventory. Tech companies that aim to help create better restaurants will prioritize access to data and analytics.

5. Personalization

80% of the programs seen on Netflix come from personalized recommendations made by the system.

Allergies, food intolerances, the diversity of diets, such as vegan, vegetarian, raw food, etc., make the challenge of restaurants about the preferences of their diners is simply a headache.

Thanks to the information from the information systems, you can perfectly know all this, without asking your guests a single question, creating customer profiles based on their history.

Become the culinary Netflix of your city.
