5 types of valves from the “siphon” effect for a washing machine

An unpleasant situation is when sewage from the sewer enters the washing machine tank. “Swampy” smell and dirty linen are guaranteed. This can happen due to improper connection of the machine to the drain. But what to do if the realities of life are completely incompatible with the installation instructions? In this case, the check valve for the washing machine will help. This special device passes the used liquid only in one direction. Useful information about this detail within the article.

The principle of operation of the drain valve

The valve acts as a barrier between the sewer pipe or siphon (depending on the connection method) and the drain hose of the washing machine. Most often, the function of the shutter is performed by a ball or spring, which move, passing water pouring out of the tank. But dirty water cannot get back, because under the pressure of the incoming liquid, the ball becomes an obstacle, closing the lumen of the pipe.

Conclusion: by installing a check valve on the drain, you will eliminate the problem of unpleasant odors and things soiled in the drum.

Types of anti-siphon valves

Depending on the design and installation method, the device is divided into five types:

  • whole;
  • segment;
  • wall;
  • mortise;
  • siphon with non-return valve (under the sink).

Regardless of the brand of the washing machine (it doesn’t matter, “Bosch” you, “Самсунг” or another TM) you can choose any type (but consulting a service center or an experienced craftsman will not be superfluous). In this case, it is better to focus on the place where the drain hose is connected, the water (hardness and soiling), the frequency of washing and the degree of soiling of the laundry. If tap water is hard and things are heavily soiled (for example, you often wash overalls or baby clothes), it is advisable to choose a segmented view – it can be disassembled and cleaned in case of blockage.

С whole this number will not work, you will have to replace it with a new one, and the place to drain the water should be easily accessible.

Wall view – an expensive pleasure, but a completely justified and indispensable device, if the drain communication must be accommodated in a narrow gap (between the wall and the SM). For example, Leroy Merlin brand models look very stylish and aesthetically pleasing.

Chromium is often used in production. Chrome-plated elements are harmoniously combined with any plumbing and tiles. Polypropylene variants of the Czech manufacturer Alcaplast are also popular.

Mortise version – useful when organizing a drain directly to the sewer pipe.

This is the simplest connection for a drain pipe, but reliable. For example, the Italian company Siroflex.

Modification under the sink it is ideally combined with a siphon of any design.

Its dimensions are calculated just for installation with a siphon pipe. It turns out reliable protection against the siphon effect. When draining into the sink, not a single drop will fall into the washing machine. A wonderful example is a polypropylene segment model from the Italian brand Merloni. Easily disassembled and cleaned from litter if necessary.

How to connect the drain through the check valve?

Do you still doubt whether you need an anti-siphon? According to professionals, installation is required in two cases:

1. For a drain pipe that is too low to the floor.

2. For a washing machine connected to the siphon under the sink.

For a hose connected according to all the rules, while maintaining the required height and making all the bends, the anti-siphon is a waste of money and time.

How to connect the valve yourself?

To solve the problem with the drain, connect one side to the sewer pipe, and screw the CM drain hose to the second hole. If necessary, process the joints with a sealant – you’re done!

As you can see, despite the seeming simplicity, the device performs a useful function, the main thing is to choose the right model.
