The end of December has come. You scroll through the Instagram feed and see how all your friends are enjoying the first snow, enjoying the festive fuss and looking forward to the New Year. Here it is, the New Year mood, but why is it so far away?
At such moments, it seems that you are the loneliest person on Earth. In fact, you are not alone. Many of us feel overwhelmed before the holidays. The Americans even came up with a name for this condition – holiday blues, or “pre-holiday syndrome.”
Why does this happen?
In childhood, our parents, grandparents prepared a real New Year’s miracle. They decorated the apartment, went to the market for a live Christmas tree, set the table, and then Santa Claus gave the very gift that you had long dreamed of. But we are already adults. There are annual reports, sleep deprivation, deadlines, and a million other reasons that make us feel as squeezed as a lemon for lemonade.
But does this mean that it is impossible to get out of such a state? Fortunately, we can arrange a miracle for ourselves. How to catch this New Year’s mood and relax? We share life hacks.
1. Decorate the apartment
Our home is a place where you can relax and unwind. Take a look around. Are you comfortable? Do you feel comfortable? After all, this is very important. Especially now that many people are working remotely. Start decorating the apartment and add festive notes to the interior.
Christmas tree. We advise you to choose a live one to enjoy the smell of pine needles every day. Life hack! The most fluffy and graceful trees are Danish firs. And if you do not want to install a Christmas tree, you can put spruce branches in a vase – fragrant Christmas tree branches.
Warm light. That’s what can give comfort and peace. Hang garlands around the apartment. They can be placed on a Christmas tree, put on a table or window sill, or mounted on curtains.
Textiles in burgundy, dark green or deep blue. Bed linen, a blanket, towels, a tablecloth – all this will fill the house with an atmosphere of comfort and peace.
2. Give yourself time to step back from the New Year’s race.
At the end of December, everything around screams that you should be happy and inspired. This is often unsettling, especially when you don’t feel like having fun at all. The pre-holiday turmoil can add even more stress. Kilometer-long queues for gifts, crowds of people on the streets and New Year’s fairs, discounts in stores, Christmas music from every speaker.
If you’re tired of it, say, “Stop.” Exhale and step aside – you don’t have to participate in this. Decide what you really want and stick to your personal plans.
3. Give yourself a day off
If you want a simple winter fairy tale, a walk in a coniferous forest will help. You can do it alone. Listen to the crunch of snow under your feet, breathe in the frosty air, put your thoughts in order. And then take your family or friends with you. Make snowmen, play snowballs, go ice skating, bake gingerbread cookies, decorate the Christmas tree together. In general, do everything that leaves fond memories.
Such small joys will help you escape from the hustle and bustle, fully relax and get a charge of good mood.
4. Give yourself a gift
Remember, now the main Santa Claus is you yourself. Have you wanted to buy your favorite perfume for a long time, please yourself with a new ring or go to the mountains to snowboard? Do it, you deserve it!
You can arrange small surprises for yourself. Buy a New Year’s box of bath bombs, an Advent calendar, or a cool home decoration. Not to relatives, friends or colleagues, but to yourself! Believe me, this is a very important step in creating a feeling of a New Year’s miracle.
5. Call for New Year’s mood
Remember the first matinees in kindergarten? When we all believed in a fairy tale, we called Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden or asked the Christmas tree to burn. And although we have grown up a long time ago, we still hope and wait for a fairy tale every year. Now just imagine – Sberbank has reliably “insured” the New Year’s magic, and a miracle will definitely happen!
