5 steps to your own style

Full closet, but nothing to wear – a familiar situation? Maybe it’s because you buy clothes that are considered fashionable, and then you don’t understand how to wear and combine them. So the first step is to find your style. This will help five exercises.

Forget the advice of professionals about what is fashionable this season. Each person has their own style. And it should correspond to the way of life, reflect the aspirations and values. It is foolish to torture yourself with stilettos if you have to walk a lot. Just as you shouldn’t wear old sneakers all the time if you want to make a career.

It seems to many that it is difficult or even impossible to find your image without the help of a professional. In fact, you just need to clearly understand what you want, and become a little bolder.

1. Identify strengths

Collect as many of your photos as you can. Portraits and full-length, professional and amateur, from work and from vacation. Study them carefully. In which clothes do you like yourself more? Does she sit well? Does this color suit you? Did you feel comfortable in it? And how confident? Was the outfit appropriate in that situation?

What woman do you see in front of you? Does this image match your self-image? When answering these questions, choose a photo where you definitely like yourself. Let this image be your starting point.

2. Make a list of trends

It happens that in the wardrobe there is fashionable clothes bought on someone’s advice. The wide leg trousers recommended by the magazine. Or a velvet dress – a friend called it a must have of the season. Things can be super relevant and ideally suited to the figure, but at the same time not related to your inner “I”.

Nobody argues: it is necessary to take into account trends, because we do not live in a vacuum. We are influenced by the environment, society, culture. In order to be successful, it is important to look modern and follow fashion. But at the same time, do not forget about your individuality.

Buy some fashion magazines. Write down all the things that are considered relevant this season. Mentally try them on yourself and “fit” into your ordinary day. Imagine wearing this dress to work. How will you feel? What to combine it with? Where else can you go in it?

3. Set goals

Dress not only how you feel, but how you would like to feel. Clothing is a message to others and to yourself. The choice of clothing can contribute to inner change. For example, actors admit that the hero’s costume helps them get into character.

Decide what is your priority right now. If this is a career, more strict things should appear in the wardrobe. Personal life? Focus on feminine dresses that emphasize the dignity of the figure. Imagine how an employer or partner will perceive you in this or that outfit. But do not forget about inner comfort. If you don’t feel confident in a mini, this look won’t work. Stop for a fitted skirt to the knee. She also looks seductive.

4. Choose a strategy

One of the techniques will help to make the style memorable.

Main accent. This is a detail that you never change: an unusual hair color, red lipstick or a special accessory (brooch, hat, neckerchief).

Style elements. Choose an era or direction – hippie, art deco, futurism, etc. – and get a few things that emphasize your sympathy.

A uniform. Think wearing the same thing is boring? Think Karl Lagerfeld with his black and white suits or Mark Zuckerberg with his gray T-shirts. Wearing the same thing every day is a cheap and easy way to feel famous. The same suit reflects your maturity, stability, constant values.

5. Forget about flaws

We often limit ourselves to stereotypes such as “can’t wear dresses, I have short legs”, “jeans are not feminine” or “sequin sweatshirts are only for young people”. Just go to the store and choose things that you would never buy because of certain prejudices or complexes. Forget about being skeptical. Just try them on. And perhaps you will realize that in vain you denied yourself these wardrobe items.
