This is certainly an extreme, but the rate of destruction of elastin and collagen fibers, as well as skin type, is also largely determined by genes.   • Hormonal disorders. The amount of collagen and elastin in the skin depends on the level of estrogen, the strength and elasticity of the ligaments and muscles – on testosterone.
