What do you do when you feel like it’s time to leave work? Where does it come from: because of the desire to move on, grow and develop, or from the unwillingness to work at all? Reasoning business coach Lauren Zander.
Are you sitting idle at work, scrolling through your social media feed, looking at photos on your phone and remembering vacation adventures? “If you feel too relaxed in the office after holidays, weekends or long vacations, that’s fine. But what to do if time passes, but the mood does not change? asks business coach Lauren Zander.
Perhaps every day you feel more and more that you have outgrown this work? Or do you feel like your stress and discomfort levels have peaked? Or have you finally realized that you shouldn’t be doing this particular job? As a rule, we come to these conclusions gradually. But in any case, quitting is a serious decision. We can carry it around until one day something forces us to act: whether it’s an unexpected job change offer, an emergency, or a scandal at work.
Sometimes it’s hard to know what you don’t like. But if you feel stuck and don’t know how to get off the ground, take a look at our list. If you agree with at least one of the points, then it’s time for you to think about what is going wrong in your life. It may be time for you to really start developing your exit strategy.
1. I hate going to work.
This feeling is much stronger than «Monday is a hard day.» If you find it hard to force yourself to go to work, listen to yourself and your arguments. Take it seriously and don’t let the thought of «the job is so terrible and it’s not my fault» lead you astray. In this case, you will change jobs, but dissatisfaction will remain. Does everything depend on us? Surely there is something that we can never change.
2. Work makes me worse
Work is not all that life is made up of. There is a family, children, friends, studies, adventures, hobbies, sports… It is necessary that there is enough time and energy for everything, there is time and a desire to do it. If you’re sacrificing your health, marriage, relationships, personal space, and emotional well-being for your work, it’s time to make the time of your life.
3. I stand still
Routine, boring and habitual course of life interfere with development. We grow only when we leave our comfort zone, when we strive for something more. If you feel like you’re stuck (even though you have a nice job, great workplace, or friends in the office), it’s time to move on. Maybe you have outgrown your position? Whatever the reason, do not let yourself stop, try to move in the chosen direction.
4. I don’t dream about anything anymore
Motivation is everything. People who love work manage to build more successful careers than those who are motivated only by money and circumstances. Do not believe in the future of the company? Do you find work pointless? You no longer see the point in it or have begun to dream of something else. Approach this issue rationally, perhaps you should not immediately quit a well-paid job. But if you don’t like what you do, money won’t save the situation.
5. My name is new horizons
The reason people most often stay at work is the fear of the unknown, the fear of making the wrong decision, the fear of trying and failing. Building a new life is scary! But we must understand that fear will not go away until we deal with it. And to deal with it means to muster up the courage to choose the right path. Although these signs are clear evidence that the work is not suitable for us, everyone decides for himself whether to leave everything as it is or leave. The main thing is to be honest with yourself.
