5 reasons to give birth after 35 years

The stereotype “Why give birth to a grandson” has long been outdated.

My mom gave birth to me when she was 34 years old. 37 years ago in the Soviet Union it was not just age, but AGE. The label “old-born” was firmly stuck on the forehead, the doctors shook their heads and clinked: “Well, why are you so late.” Like, health is not the same, and the child will graduate from school when you are already retired. And so it happened: my mother could hardly stand me, my kidneys almost failed. I graduated from school when my mother had already received the title of a pensioner, just like my father – he was even older. But my mother does not regret anything. She just really wanted a daughter.

Now 34 is not a woman’s age at all. They give birth at 40, like Svetlana Zeynalova, and at 43, as Eva Longoria, and at 47, as Lera Kudryavtseva, and even at 54, as an actress Brigitte Nielsen. And scientists, meanwhile, are discovering more and more benefits of late childbirth. We have collected the main ones.

1. Late labor prolongs life

In 2016 in the USA conducted a study, which covered 28 thousand women. It turned out that women who gave birth to their first child after age 25 were 11 percent more likely to live to 90 years than those who gave birth earlier. A similar study was conducted in 2014. But there the age limit was higher. It turned out that women who became mothers after 33 years old were 50 percent more likely to live up to 95 years than those who gave birth to their last child to 29. But scientists make a reservation: perhaps these women were simply extremely healthy, but childbirth is not here how.

2. Late children are taller and smarter

The results of this study were published in 2016. Scientists examined one and a half million inhabitants of Sweden and found out: those who were born to late mothers were physically healthier, they did better in school, and even their average height was greater than that of their peers born to young mothers.

3. Late moms have more energy

Another study involved women who became mothers after 50 years with the help of donor eggs. Their physical health indicators were higher than those of their peers – at the level of 40-year-old mothers. Throwing ten years off your shoulders isn’t bad, isn’t it?

Well, or not fashionable, but life is like that. The general global trend is that women now give birth later. According to Rosstat reports, now the average age at which they become mothers for the first time is 26 years. And back in the 90s, the average age was 20 years. Abroad and even more beautiful – in Sweden, for example, a quarter of women give birth after 35. This phenomenon is associated with the fact that now women prefer to build a career first in order to have their own support – material first of all, and not depend on anyone.

5. Late children are better educated

This, again, is the official data. Mature women know best what to do with children by virtue of experience. They are less likely to resort to violence, both physical and verbal. That is, the child grows up without spanking and yelling. Although when the transitional age begins, mothers who are wise in age often give up. However, according to a study by Danish scientists, these children still have fewer behavioral, emotional and social problems. This is also due to the fact that at a later age, desired and even planned children are often born.
