5 natural mosquito repellents

It’s the same thing every summer, mosquitoes come to ruin our lives. To avoid getting bitten without using chemicals, it is possible to use 100% natural tips.

To repel mosquitoes, it is not necessarily necessary to use repellents or phytosanitary products. There are indeed solutions that are both effective and respectful of our environment and our health.

1. Mosquito repellent plants

Mosquitoes hate the smell of certain plants. This is the case with geranium. But not just any! This is not the red geranium that we find in many planters that adorn balconies. The one that is effective against mosquitoes is pelargonium. Among the 200 species, you will find the pelargonium citronellum whose citronella scent is an excellent repellant.

Do you like herbs and use them for cooking? Good thing, some are very effective against mosquitoes: basil, peppermint and rosemary. Install pots near your windows, their smell will drive away mosquitoes.

2. Apple cider vinegar as a repellent lotion

Do not spend more money on repellent lotions bought in pharmacies and try this natural trick! Coat yourself with apple cider vinegar.

No need to worry about your skin, its pH is the same and therefore it will not be aggressive. On the contrary, apple cider vinegar is antiseptic and also relieves various itching including those caused by mosquito bumps !

3. Essential oils to ward off mosquitoes

Some essential oils give off a scent that scares away mosquitoes: EO of lemon eucalyptus, EO of lemongrass, EO of lavender, EO of geranium.

Our recipe? In a pot, dilute 10 drops of essential oil in 200 ml of water then heat. The steam released will drive mosquitoes out of the room.

4. Install mosquito nets

It is a solution that we would too tend to neglect and yet it is very effective: the mosquito net. Installed above your bed, it will allow you to sleep without hearing awful ringing in your ears and will prevent you from getting bites when you wake up.

In the same principle, you can also install some on your window frames. So you can ventilate your home without fear of an invasion of mosquitoes!

5. Adopt a bat!

No you are not dreaming, the bat is a formidable predator for the mosquito. She would indeed able to eat 2.000 mosquitoes in one night : a good reason to welcome this nocturnal animal in our gardens.

So invest in a bat shelter. If you are a handyman you can even make it yourself, with a few wooden planks.
