5 main rules for storing cheese

Cheese is a living product, processes of renewal and development constantly take place in it, which means that the storage of this product must comply with certain rules. Incorrect storage of cheese will not only dry out and become unattractive, it can also harm the body. How to store cheese properly?

1. Buy as much as you can eat in the next 2-3 days. It’s hard to resist the cheese shelf in the store, you want to take at least a small piece of everything. But cheese is not stored for a long time – it is better to go to the store for cheese again than to throw out an expensive healthy product. Soft cheeses are stored for 3 days, processed cheese – no more than 2 days, and hard cheese – 7-10 days.

2. Individual packaging – each piece of cheese of a different kind and type must be stored separately. At the same time, wrapped in a film, the cheese “suffocates” and its taste deteriorates, bacteria multiply much faster. Store the cheese in parchment to protect it from drying out.

3. Store cheeses exclusively in the refrigerator, unless, of course, your home has a cool basement. The ideal storage temperature for cheese is 6-8 degrees, humidity is 90 percent. Refrigerator Cheese Rack – Bottom rack or drawer for fruits and vegetables. Cheese does not like sudden changes in temperature, otherwise it will either disappear or begin to crumble.

4. Do not cut the rind – it retains the flavor of the cheese and protects it from the air. If the crust is not wax, then it is completely edible and healthy. However, it is better to check with the seller about the possibility of using cheese with a crust.

5. Store separately from other strong-smelling foods. Cheeses tend to absorb the flavors of the environment. Each time after use, wrap the cheese in a separate package and put it back in its place.
