What to drink on a diet? So what will help you lose weight
Holidays are coming. Some of us abandon healthy habits without any major complaints, claiming that a week or two will not make a difference, and even stimulate metabolism. Nothing could be more wrong. Researchers at Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences warn that eating fatty foods such as fast food for as little as five days can worsen your metabolism.
During the study, one group of students was given a diet containing 55 percent fat, the other – standard – 30 percent. After five days, muscle samples were taken to check the sugar metabolism. It turned out that the muscle’s ability to use glucose after a few days of fatty eating is disrupted, which means we use energy worse.
The muscles use the sugar that comes from the food on a regular basis. The changes that long-term consumption of junk fatty foods entails lead to a disruption of sugar use. As a consequence, the creation of inventories is intensified.
Scientists emphasize that after just a few days of high-fat eating, the body begins to protest. These changes can have long-term effects and lead to problems such as weight gain or the body’s inability to respond to insulin. So we should not try to explain that we are on vacation and we can eat whatever we want. It is better to indulge in something “forbidden” once in a while than to overeat for a few days in a row.
In further studies, scientists want to find out what other effects a short-term high-fat diet can have and how quickly metabolism will return to its previous state.
