PSYchology

In NLP there is a concept of a representative system (modality). The representational system is the preferred way of processing, storing and replaying previously acquired information. There are 3 main representative systems, or modalities:

1. Visual. People who have this modality more developed perceive information through images. From such people you can hear / read the phrases: «I see», «This room with bright wallpaper and a beautiful sofa.»

2. Auditory. People with this developed modality rely on sound images. Such people often say: «I heard that…», «This room is very quiet.»

3. Kinesthetic. People with this modality predominate perceive information better through sensations. People with this modality say: «I feel, I have such a feeling», «I feel comfortable in this room.»

Together, the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic representational systems are called the VAK.

4. Additional rational. For such people, everything is structural and it is easier for them to perceive everything through numbers, tables, etc. People with this modality say: “I think, I think that …”, “There are 2 sofas in this room, 2 people live and the cost of a painting on the wall is 15 USD.

Each of us perceives information through all channels of perception, but some one most often prevails in the majority. All channels need to be developed. What for?

  1. The best communication with people. If you communicate with a kinesthetic in his language, you will quickly find common ground and he will understand you faster. This is useful for all of us.
  2. Discovering the wealth of the world and getting real pleasure from the world around. A huge number of images, sounds, sensations will fall on you … and you will feel, see, hear something that you have not paid attention to for a long time or that has always passed you by.

Intensive

Purpose: in 5 days, develop your auditory, visual, rational and kinesthetic representational systems and perceive the world in its entirety!

Day 1. Visual perception and colors of the world

Today’s task: to look, to see, to contemplate, to observe, to consider, to represent.

Explore and enjoy colors and shades, shapes, sizes, textures… What is around you right now? How many objects and colors? Take a break from the text and study the walls, the floor and your clothes, the people around you. How many muted and bright tones will you see? What are the sizes of the items? What’s outside the window? What kind of cars, what are people wearing, and how are the houses painted? How long have you looked at the sky and peered into its depth and bottomlessness? And when did you enjoy nature? And how many shades of leaves can you distinguish in the park? Today is the time!

If possible, climb higher and look at the city: night or day? How much you will see in total or there is an opportunity to admire nature in the park or in the village. How many shades of foliage will you see? Russian physiologist I. Pavlov believed that the human eye can distinguish more than 100 shades …

Watch breathtaking landscapes (if possible, then live), if not, then find a beautiful picture on the Internet and look at it or any object that first catches your eye. For example, what is at hand: a smartphone or a computer mouse. Look at the night sky tonight: at the moon and stars… And play with your imagination. Remembering and drawing, like an artist, vivid pictures, I change the color and background, the number of details and shapes.

Bright day!

Day 2. Auditory. Today we listen and hear

The sounds of nature, the city, the voices of people… Once, we discussed a famous band with a familiar musician. I said that in fact “they sing so-so and their lyrics are the same,” to which he said: “Did you even listen to the music in addition to the lyrics? What kind of transitions does the guitarist make, how cool does the drummer work?!…”

Today the whole world of sounds is ours! We listen to the environment. Arrange the sounds according to their constituent elements: if it is music or the noise of the city. What elements can be heard there, what should be emphasized? Listen to the sounds that are near you and concentrate on the sounds far away. If there are many sounds around, concentrate on each one in turn. Find beauty in every sound, try to combine them and hear two or three at the same time.

Listen to music today that you usually don’t play. Listen to the voice of the interlocutor and to your own. Listen to silence.

If you work well for 1 day, then you can once and for all learn to hear what others usually do not hear, and before that you yourself. And then you can get indescribable pleasure from music for the rest of your life.

Day 3. Kinesthetics. We feel and feel

Feel your body: when you wash your hands, smile, sit in an easy chair, drink tea (and when was the last time you enjoyed its taste?), and how tasty is water? What sensations will you feel to the fullest today? Turn on kinesthetics: touch things, touch, enjoy and enjoy them! air, warm water, sunlight, paper — what is it all? What are the feelings? There is so much soft, warm, cool around… Feel what your body wants and asks for.

Feel the other person (you can also work on cats: they love it :). What does he feel? How nice it would be for you to touch him. Jump into a person, be him, feel: what is it like for him? How would he be even more comfortable next to you? If you work it out with your soul, then it is very easy to communicate with others. Cats will certainly not let you pass, and people too 🙂

Day 4. Rational. Looking for meaning in everything

Your questions today: What? For what? What for? Why exactly? How many options are there and which ones? How will be better? How can it not work? How much? Ask questions about everything. Connect curiosity and be Sherlock Holmes: study and pay attention to details. Measure, compare, learn, count, analyze…

Vase on the table. What is she for? What is it made of? How much does it weigh? Why exactly this form? How is it done? And if the bottom was a different format? Why a vase and what can it be used for? How to improve? What to add? Size, shape, how much it weighs … An aphorism or a thought came across. Study: why is it said that way, why did the author say what he wanted? How would it be better? And in general, how many sentences and words did he say in each?

Day 5. Pumping all representational systems

Over the past 5 days, we have awakened our representational systems, deepened our feelings and I think already now, the world has become much brighter, louder, more comfortable, bigger, cooler! And you want to fight, do you want to further and more enhance the effect?

Today is the most delicious and strong task: intensive. We turn on to the fullest. Task: turn on each system for 5 minutes: 5 minutes visual, 5 minutes auditory, 5 minutes kinesthetic, 5 minutes rational and 5 minutes for silence and for “here and now”. V.e.yte to the maximum every five minutes. If you look — just look, if you listen — just listen, feel — just feel … Squeeze the maximum! Change the volume, increase and decrease the sensations: play with representational systems, learn to control and enjoy them!

After each five minutes, 1-2 minutes of rest for recording and rest, rethinking or additional feeling. Approaches: about 3 per day.

Conclusions

In fact, we use all of our representational systems. Our task: to learn to focus on them. And this week we have learned/remembered/additionally pumped it. And now, after the intensive — in ordinary life, this can be used by focusing only visual or auditory, or in a complex way to pay attention to something. For example, reading a book. You can read and enjoy the type and illustrations, smell the book and the roughness of the paper, listen to how the book is turned over and how it is placed on the table. Count the number of pages and think about the text as much as possible … Now, under the task, you can include (or rather, strengthen) those systems that are needed. I think this is the next step and level of life. We can say that now “I live a full life” … What do you think? What conclusions do you have? Write your report:

  1. What has changed in your life in these 6 days? What did you add to it?
  2. What was the most memorable?
  3. What do I bring to life?
  4. What representational systems will I work on next?
