5 bad habits that make us age faster

Aging is the transformation that many of us fear the most, but which we all face in one way or another. That is why many of us spend fabulous sums on expensive cosmetics and procedures. This in itself is not bad, but it is important to remember that a number of habits can adversely affect the state of our body and no creams can fix this.

1. Sleep on the side

Few people think about it, but the position in which we sleep has a huge impact on our body. Studies show that constant side sleeping leads to deformation of facial features due to the fact that it comes into contact with the pillow (and actually flattens out), and the formation of so-called “sleepy wrinkles”, creases in the skin that are not amenable to cosmetic correction.

So it’s worth getting used to sleeping on your back – this helps you sleep better and avoid premature aging.

2. Neglect of sunscreen

Ultraviolet rays have been proven to damage cells and lead to premature aging of the skin, which is expressed in the appearance of wrinkles, dryness and fading of the skin, as well as the appearance of age spots.

In one study, scientists studied the skin condition of 900 subjects for four years. Those who used daily UV-filter creams showed 24% less signs of skin aging than everyone else.

3. Too Much Sugar

Yes, such an unpleasant surprise: sugar and foods containing it make us age. Back in 2013, researchers studied photographs of 602 test subjects with different blood sugar levels and tried to determine their age. It turned out that people with high sugar levels look older than the rest.

Scientists urge if not to completely abandon sugar, then at least control its consumption. It’s all about the so-called “glycol stress”: during the process of glycation (or glycation), the natural collagen in the skin cells is destroyed, which causes wrinkles. In women, for example, this effect becomes especially noticeable after 35 years.

4. Lack of sleep

Oddly enough, for a modern person, lack of sleep has become a huge problem: for example, 35% of Americans complain of lack of sleep (they sleep less than 7 hours a day, compared to the norm of 7–9).

It is important that not only chronic sleep deprivation is harmful: according to a study at the University of California, just one sleepless night or a night when we did not get enough sleep is enough for skin cells to begin to age faster and their regenerative ability to decrease. Moreover, it is important not only the quantity, but also the quality of sleep.

5. Abuse of devices

According to statistics, 60% of people today spend six or more hours a day on gadgets, which means they cannot avoid exposure to the so-called high-energy visible light (HEV) from screens. Which, in turn, leads to shrinkage and premature cell death.

According to some reports, this light reaches even deeper layers of the skin than UV rays, and 60 minutes of “irradiation” is enough to start destructive processes in the skin. Some dermatologists even believe that an 8–9-hour day at the computer can be equated to a 20-minute stay under the scorching rays of the midday sun. And you can fight this only by reducing the time spent in front of the screens of laptops, smartphones and other devices.

As you can see, all advice ultimately boils down to changing the lifestyle and lifestyle, and this news is both good and bad at the same time. Bad, because giving up bad habits requires incomparably more effort than buying another cream or a session of beauty treatments. Good – because it will ultimately affect the quality of life too.
