When choosing a dishwasher as a home assistant, buyers often ignore such an important feature as the volume of work. This is not surprising, because the quality of equipment is usually evaluated according to completely different criteria, such as the energy efficiency of the device, the selection of programs, brand awareness, cost, and the availability of additional options. And such an indicator as the noise of the dishwasher, emitted by it during operation, is relegated to the background. In the article we will explain why, when choosing overall equipment, it is important to take into account this parameter of its functioning and which PMMs are the most silent.
Noise level of dishwashers
A dishwasher is often chosen not for 1-2 years, but for at least 5 years. And if now, for example, the noise parameter does not matter much to you, then in the future everything can change. The appearance of small children in the house or older people, redevelopment of the premises into a kitchen-studio will sharply raise the issue of reducing the sound accompaniment of equipment. But will you be able to do it? Isn’t it better to take a more responsible approach to choosing a machine so that you don’t face a similar situation in the future?
Therefore, before buying a vending model, the first thing to do is to study its characteristics in the technical data sheet. Pay attention to the noise figure of the device, which is measured in decibels.
The norm for PMM is up to 60 dB. But this does not mean that such a technique works quietly, although it does not exceed the threshold of permissible values. Most modern washing machines are “noisy” in the range from 38 to 50 dB. The lower the decibels, the quieter the device.
To make it easier to navigate the values, compare the level of comfortable and uncomfortable noise in decibels with sounds familiar to human hearing. See the photo below for examples:
The “sound” of the dishwasher also depends on the type of installation. Fully built-in models are much quieter, as they are completely hidden behind a furniture facade, which reduces their decibels. Partially built-in ones can sound even louder than indicated by the manufacturer in the data sheet. Indeed, during the washing cycle, they can transmit vibration to the panels of the kitchen set.
How to reduce the noise of the PMM?
To technically reduce the noise of the machine, the developers do the following:
- carefully select structural materials;
- use a softened suspension for the motor;
- introduce all kinds of vibration dampers;
- monitor the quality of the insulation of the case.
Here we also recall the inverter motor, which is considered the most productive and quiet. But if it is available, the cost of the machine will be much higher.
If your home assistant is not quiet, you can lower the decibels yourself. For example, sheathe the body with soundproofing material, and put rubber pads under the legs.
Silent dishwashers can be found both among full-size models and among narrow ones. But among the compact desktop PMM, you will not be able to find quiet ones. Plus, some “quiet” models are more economical in energy consumption than their loud “colleagues”.
Overview of the most silent PMM
In general, the dishwasher is a rather “loud” household appliance. But manufacturers are actively working on this problem, and many have already managed to reduce the noise level of their devices to a volume that is comfortable for human hearing.
The top 3 most silent washing machines, which also have good functionality, are as follows:
Electrolux ESL 97845 RA
Fully built-in premium model. Capacity – 13 sets of dishes. Number of programs – 7. Energy efficiency class A +++. The noise level is only 39 dB, thanks to just the same inverter motor and high-quality sound insulation.
Smeg STA6539L3
Dishwasher built-in, standard sizes. Holds 13 sets. Equipped with the EnerSave option: A +++, which indicates high energy efficiency. Has 5 standard washing programs and 5 additional Quick Time, with reduced cycle times for different types of dishes. Noisy work – no more than 39 dB. Useful options: “beam on the floor”, automatic opening of the door after the end of the program.
Bosch Series 6 SPS66XW11R
Freestanding slim dishwasher with a width of 45 cm. Loads up to 10 sets. Thanks to the EcoSilence Drive brushless, energy-saving motor, the noise level does not exceed 43 dB. For a narrow freestanding machine, this is a very good indicator. Features of the model: “Night wash”, internal lighting of the loading chamber, “Enhanced hygiene” function.
Summing up, we note that quiet dishwashers are not uncommon and they are found under different brands. Therefore, if you need a silent washing machine from a specific manufacturer, then there will be no problems when choosing. Another thing is that the prices for such models are much higher, although they are quite justified. After all, you always have to pay extra for comfort.
