Many of us from time to time begin to feel that we do not live our lives, but everything we do is uninteresting and meaningless. How do you know if you are on the right path?
In the age of technology, we get too much information about what others are doing. Society, family, partners put pressure, imposing ideas, stereotypes and obligations. As a result, we lose ourselves as a person, forget who we are and what we want.
So it was with me. I lived in New York, went to medical school and was going to be a doctor. After studying for six months, I felt that something was missing, I realized that I was following a mandatory scenario, instead of realizing myself.
I dropped out of university to combine two passions: healthy living and writing. It would seem, why not immediately choose this path? It’s not easy to give in to what you love. The right questions helped to make a choice and change the direction of personal growth. I hope they help you too.
1. Who do I want to be?
I hesitated to leave my studies for a dubious career as a writer and consultant until I realized that my time was not limitless. Understanding that life is not infinite helps you focus on what you want. You are finally starting to live life to its fullest and give your 100% despite your fears and prejudices. If you do something that goes against your values, or something you will regret later, come up with a plan to help change your life. Be patient and persistent, change takes time.
2. Why do I need it?
Often the desires and view of the world are limited by the internal «program code». Everything that we see, hear and do is perceived taking into account the code, which contains ideas about the world around us and the future life. Do you want your parents to be proud of your career, or has your life choices been influenced by peer competition? Is the life you lead yours or someone else’s?
A few more questions:
- Does my job make me happy? Does it give meaning to life?
- Do thoughts about work inspire me or frustrate me?
- What do I want from the outside world?
- How would you like to feel?
3. How do I feel?
In a crazy world, people often forget about health for the sake of money and a career. Ask yourself: Do I consider myself a top priority? Start with nutrition optimization. You will have more energy, be more productive and improve your quality of life.
4. What do I want to be remembered for?
Assuming that tomorrow you will not be, what can you say about the life you have lived? Are you satisfied with it? I know this question seems weird and bleak, but thinking like this allows you to bring clarity to your life and focus on the value you can bring to people.
What would you like to be remembered for? What would you like to hear about yourself? How do you think people will feel when you are gone? Thinking about it, you will understand who you are. Take 10-15 minutes and write your obituary. Let all the qualities and merits described in it become a compass in a conscious life.
