Hello dear readers! Literally 15 years ago, we did not have enough information. To get an answer to a question, most people had to turn to books or to those who are experts in the desired topic.
Now things are completely different. Our perception has to work to the maximum. Since the material that enters our brain every second is quite difficult not only to process, assimilate, but sometimes to track. Advertising is quite aggressive, even in public transport or the toilet, it «does not give rest.»
So a valuable, and sometimes vital skill of a modern person is the ability to find what you need in the boundless information space. As they say «a needle in a haystack».
That is why today I want to tell you about what methods of fast reading exist. So that you can navigate in this space, develop and achieve your goals, meet your needs more efficiently and quickly.
Methods
The main problems that hinder the rapid perception and assimilation of the text will be listed below. Accordingly, the methods and techniques of speed reading are aimed at overcoming them.
Regression
Regression is a backward movement. That is, when we read a piece of text, and then returned to it again. This happens unconsciously, sometimes even imperceptibly for the person himself, but brings a lot of problems. The main one is the decrease in reading speed.
It’s like taking two steps forward, then one step back, and so on. It will be faster to run to the finish line if you move, even overcoming obstacles, only straight ahead. Right?
It happens that sometimes it is necessary to return, because thoughts arise and it is important to think them over, comprehend. This is the reason for the regression.
Experts recommend repeating incomprehensible paragraphs after you have turned the last page. Or at least finished the chapter.
Articulation
Articulation is the movement of the lips, tongue, larynx, palatine uvula during a conversation. Then our speech sounds clear and understandable to others. But in the process of reading, it turned out that she is also present.
And the less developed the skill of reading, as usually happens in young children who are just mastering it, the more actively this articulation will manifest itself. In adults, this happens with a fairly complex text.
So, try to exclude the internal pronunciation of words, and also try not to mumble them, even very quietly. If for some reason it doesn’t work out, keep a pencil in your teeth, this method will help you keep your speech apparatus under control.

line of sight
If a person perceives only individual letters or words, then the so-called splitting of the gaze occurs. Which significantly slows down the entire process of reading and understanding the information received.
Try to cover the whole sentence. You know, there are pictures, looking at which, you need to defocus your vision in order to see a holistic image created from the same symbols? If you look at each of them separately, you will never guess what part of which they are.
This is almost the same with text. Learn to cover as much of it as possible with your eyes, then you will significantly save time on its perception.
Motivation and Strategies
Do you think that a person who does not quite understand what he wants and takes on a task just to keep himself occupied has a great chance of achieving success in this activity?
If we take up a book without being interested in it, without understanding why we need it and what tasks we can solve with it, or get answers to questions, it is unlikely that we will master the text at a high speed, and even get certain knowledge.
Because the process itself will be automated. Yes, and you will have to make tremendous efforts to return to it. In general, all this can be called just a waste of time.
Online simulators

Exercises
- Try to play with the text by reading it, as it should be, from top to bottom, and then vice versa. Similarly, skip a line or a sentence. At first, you will not understand anything at all, but over time you will learn how to cover a large amount of material at a time.
- Think of any word that is not rare enough, and try to find it on the page of any book. You can even come up with a certain number of times to complicate the search.
- Carefully look at the page for, say, 20 seconds. Highlight the main words that occur to create a general picture of the meaning embedded in it.
- Try to read a paragraph without running your eyes through the text from left to right, but looking in the very center. That is, to start, to build on it. Then you will learn to see the picture more holistically, and not piece by piece to collect details.
