The period of pregnancy is a time of great anticipation. Parents want to meet their toddler and luckily today they don’t have to wait until the moment of birth. Thanks to the 3D ultrasound examination, the baby can be watched at every stage of pregnancy. However, it should be remembered that the examination is primarily an important element of prenatal diagnostics.
The control of the development of the fetus is possible today thanks to 3D technology. The 3D ultrasound is so real that it is possible to determine the resemblance to mom or dad from this image. Most of all, however, 3D ultrasound is used by doctors to diagnose serious fetal defects.
3D ultrasound – characteristics
3D ultrasound is a modern technique that gives a very real image of the baby. It allows you to see the child’s facial features and every movement, such as clenching fists or sticking out the tongue.
Importantly, 3D ultrasound gives an image in high resolution and in natural colors. In addition, the computer program removes the background so that the image can be compared to the image from the camera.
A nice and legible picture of a child is not enough. The 3D ultrasound examination also allows to obtain anatomical cross-sections of the fetus, which is not possible during a traditional ultrasound examination. This makes it much easier to spot birth defects in the early stages of pregnancy.
The price of a 3D ultrasound is about PLN 200-300. It is worth making them, and the recording is available on request in the form of a DVD. So it is also a beautiful memento from the period of pregnancy.
3D ultrasound – fetal defects
3D ultrasound is a diagnostic tool that allows the doctor to assess the shape of the face and the entire head, the location of the ears and gender recognition. The birth defects of the fetus can also be seen much more clearly.
An accurate 3D ultrasound image is very important when assessing the development of the spine, limbs and abdominal integuments. The doctor can also view the heart of an unborn baby in several ways and assess the development of the nervous system.
Due to the fact that the 3D ultrasound shows genetic and birth defects, doctors and parents can better prepare for the birth of a child. Occasionally, your baby may require medical attention right after birth.
3D ultrasound – indications
3D ultrasound examination is not a standard examination, but it allows to assess the condition of the fetus from the outside.
Medical recommendations are that ultrasound examinations should be performed at least 3 times during pregnancy. Therefore, the ultrasound examination should be performed around 11-14 weeks of pregnancy and at 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy. The best time to perform 3D ultrasound is week 18-22, i.e. the half-time ultrasound period. This test is very important, so it is worth doing it in 3D technology.
An indication for more frequent ultrasound examinations, including 3D ultrasound, is twin pregnancy, arterial hypertension or diabetes.

3D ultrasound – course
3D ultrasound, like any other ultrasound examination, does not require any preparation. It usually takes about 20 minutes. During this examination, the gynecologist can assess the size of the fetus, the age of pregnancy, and the approximate date of delivery.
The 3D ultrasound also shows the structure of the heart, brain, kidneys, bladder, spine and stomach. However, any disadvantages are best seen only after the 20th week of pregnancy.
3D ultrasound gives future parents confidence that the pregnancy is going well. Remember that early detection of fetal defects allows you to start treatment during pregnancy and prepare for what may happen after the baby is born.
