33 years old, is this really the age of happiness?
Failing to know precisely what happiness is, we can first know the auspicious period. According to an English survey describing our feeling of happiness according to age, we would be happiest at 33 years old. Key figure of our development, 33 would be the age of happiness? Decryption.
Happy at 33
According to an English study and survey carried out by the Friends Reunited website among people over 40, we were able to identify the age when, for the most part, people say they have been the happiest.
The result is quite convincing: 70% of them confirmed that they did not reach a truly happy state until the age of 33. Of the remaining 30%, 16% cite childhood or adolescence as the happiest period, and 6% student life.
Happier, in his adult life, his family life, his marriage, or quite simply in the life that we have finally chosen. Because 33 years is the beginning of real choices: those that we often refused in our twenties, because not mature enough or sure of ourselves. We are finally out of innocence, naivety, but we are realistic enough to also see all our potential, our talent, our dreams to be realized and accessible. Both independent and autonomous, we were able, at 33, to make choices that make us happy.
If we have chosen to have children, they are still very young, and watching them grow up makes us happy. Parents, not yet dependent on us because of their aging age, let us stand on our own two feet. If you are alone, you enjoy your life by traveling, going out, having a fulfilling social life and many friends, catalysts of happiness.
33 years old: the new 20 years?
To explain this massive response corresponding to the age of 33, respondents answered:
- 53% that they had more fun at this age;
- 42% that they were more optimistic about the future;
- 38% that they were less stressed;
- 36% that they were happy to have had children;
- 31% that they were happy to have a family together;
- 21% reported professional success at this point in their life.
IAsked by Friends Reunited, Donna Dawson, psychologist, gives an explanation for this “Golden age”, considered the new 20 years :
“The age of 33 is a long enough time to have shaken off the naivety of childhood and the savage intrigue of adolescent age, without losing the energy and enthusiasm of youth. At this age, innocence has been lost, but our sense of reality is mixed with a strong sense of hope, a spirit of “challenge”, and a healthy belief in our own talents and abilities. We haven’t yet developed the cynicism and weariness that comes with subsequent years. ”
This age is also quite symbolic: a sacred number for Pythagoras, it is also the age of Christ at his death and the number of his miracles, the number of vertebrae in the human body and the highest rank of the franc. masonry.
Another golden age: 55… or 70?
However, other studies have shown other great heights of happiness and wholeness in human life. So if you are over 33 years old and you haven’t reached nirvana, don’t panic.
According to a study by the Hotmail (Microsoft) email service, the age of 55 is considered ideal. Indeed, this is the age when we catch our breath. The children have grown up, you are at the end of your career, you spend less time at work but a lot more taking care of yourself per day. You travel more and enjoy life more! Good news for the fifties before reaching retirement.
For people who are also over 55, all is not over: other studies have shown yet another golden age, even higher! A study revealed in 2010 already spoke of the age when the conditions to be happy are met: it was counting on an older age… Between 70 and 80 years!
We would call this the “paradox of well-being”, since from the age of 65, we face physical and mental challenges, since the body is degrading. However, age also brings wisdom to life, a better knowledge of society and its emotions.
There are thus, and fortunately, different times in life to succeed in being fully happy.
