32-year-old Danielle Alvarez, who won the Miss Columbia title in 2011, recently underwent major surgery. The model had a knee-deep leg amputation due to ischemia after having a tumor in her abdomen removed. On her Instagram, Danielle shared pictures from a hospital bed.

In the vivid shots, a young woman is surrounded by a loving family. Her parents, sister, brother and ex-boyfriend came to support her. Despite what happened to her, the model tries to maintain a positive attitude.

“I love my body as much as I used to. I am happy just to be in this world and to face new challenges that arise in my life, ”said Alvarez.

Danielle is optimistic about the future. The beauty queen said that although the next few months will be very difficult for her, she still believes in the best.

According to the Daily Mail, the model also noted that she may have a prosthesis that will allow her to dance, run, ride a bike and do whatever she was fond of before the operation.
