Many modern dishwashers are able to independently detect a malfunction and report it to the owner in a timely manner. The technique of the German brand “Sigmund & Stein” is no exception. In most cases, PMM issues a breakdown code on the display. What Zigmund & Shtain dishwasher errors indicate and what to do to fix them, we will describe below.
How Sigmund & Stein fault codes are decoded
In PMM “Sigmund Stein” errors are displayed in alphanumeric format: E or F
. To understand how to eliminate this or that breakdown, consider their meaning.
- E1, F5 - a problem with water intake. The hopper fills longer than the time set for this procedure. The cause may be low pressure in the water pipe. The supply tap may be blocked or there may be a blockage in the hose or inlet valve.
- E4 - the leakage protection system has worked. The reasons are as follows: damage or wear to the hoses, a hole in the housing, or the drain pump has broken.
- E8 - means an error in the distribution valve. The part itself may be faulty or there may be a break in the circuit.
- F1 - an error indicates an overflow. The cause must be sought in a malfunction of the filling valve or pressure switch. Be sure to check the pressure in the water supply and, if necessary, reduce it.
- F2 - drain does not work. Most likely, the drain filters are clogged or the dishes are blocking the outlet for the outflow of water.
- F3 - incorrect water supply. In this case, the manufacturer recommends turning off the supply valve and contacting a service center for help.
- F6 - failure of the temperature sensor (NTC), which will have to be replaced.
- F7 - means overheating inside the chamber due to a malfunction of the thermal sensor.
- F8 - a problem with the heating element (heater). Perhaps the contacts have come off or there is an open in the circuit. If the heating element is burned out, then a replacement part is needed.
- F9 - Wrong separator position.
- FE - the control board has failed. Need help from a specialist.
What do the error codes mean, we figured it out. But do not rush and go straight to action. First, you should exclude a system failure by rebooting the device.
How to restart PMM:
- stop the program (if it is running);
- unplug the dishwasher by pulling the plug out of the socket;
- wait 10-15 minutes;
- try turning the machine on again.
If the restart of the PMM was not successful and the code on the display was highlighted again, then repair is required.
Important! You should not solve the problem with codes by constantly rebooting. If restarting the PMM helped, then it could just be a one-time system failure, and if the combination is highlighted again, then there is a problem that should not be postponed.
Causes of breakdowns of the Sigmund Stein dishwasher
Not all malfunctions are reported by the dishwasher with an error code. Often problems arise during the active operation of the device (that is, the PMM continues to work, but with some "nuances"). Most often, owners of Zigmund & Shtain dishwashers are faced with such situations:
- The program does not start. Why is this happening? There can be many options: the fuses are blown, there is no voltage in the socket, the water supply valve is not fully open or closed, the chamber door is not tightly closed. Well, the most common problem is a clogged inlet hose or valve.
- Water remains in the car. There are blockages in the drain system. The drain hose may be kinked, kinked, or not installed as directed.
- Dishes do not dry out. Not enough rinse aid is being used, or cutlery is being unloaded too quickly from the compartment.
- Dishes remain dirty. Causes: not enough detergent is used, the washing mode is selected incorrectly, the dishes themselves are loaded incorrectly.
- Noise during the operation of the PMM. The dishes are installed incorrectly, so the atomizer hits them, making a characteristic knock. Cutlery that is poorly fixed can rattle. The solution would be to reinstall the dishes.

Zigmund & Shtain Dishwasher Repair
It is necessary to approach the repair of equipment with your own hands in a balanced and deliberate manner. And if the dishwasher is under warranty, it’s better not to take risks and call the master from the service center.
Cleaning filters and hoses
A clogged drain and fill system is a fairly common phenomenon that occurs due to improper maintenance of equipment. Cleaning can solve several problems with PMM at once.
Before starting any repair work, make sure that the dishwasher is unplugged from the mains and the water supply tap is turned off.
To clean the filling system (hose and filter), proceed as follows:
- disconnect the inlet hose from the body;
- using pliers, pull the filter (mesh) out of it;
- rinse the item thoroughly;
- if there is debris in the filler pipe, clean it too;
- assemble the parts and put them back in place.
The drain channel, in which food waste can accumulate, also needs a cleaning procedure. See below for how to clean it.
- Pull out the loading baskets and trays from the dishwasher.
- Locate the filter at the bottom of the chamber and pull it out by turning it counterclockwise.
- Remove the metal grill.
- Pull out the coarse filter from the microfilter.
- Rinse all parts thoroughly. Then collect them in one block and put in place.
Regularly clean PMM nodes that are prone to blockage. This simple procedure will reduce the risk of encountering a similar situation in the future.
Solving the problem of poor washing
If the dishes remain unwashed after automatic washing, then the device is not being used correctly. Look for the problem in the following:
- Incorrect placement of dishes in the chamber. This often leads to rocker blockage. Reposition cutlery so that they do not lean against each other and do not block the rotation of the rocker arms. Also, do not overload the camera. If it is designed to wash a certain number of sets, do not try to load more.
- Washing program selected incorrectly. Set the wash cycle to suit the type of dirt. Relying on the fact that the dishes from grease or dried food residues will be washed on the “quick wash” program is not worth it. Always take this into account so that you do not have to wash the dishes by hand.
- Rocker blockage. The nozzle holes are prone to clogging, so the water is not properly distributed throughout the chamber and the dirt is not washed off at all or is partially washed off. The problem is easy to fix. If the nozzles of the spray arms are clogged, they must be removed and cleaned of clogged dirt, using an ordinary toothpick for this purpose.

Leak repair
If a puddle of water has formed under the machine, then there is a leak. The first thing to do is to inspect all the nodes and identify the place of the leak.
- Check the drain and intake hoses. If they are damaged, replace them. Check pipe fastening. If necessary, tighten the clamps.
- Inspect the door seal for defects. If it is worn out, it must also be replaced.
- If the water tank cracked (it happens extremely rarely), then you need to contact the service center.
- Examine the body of the device itself. If you find a hole in it, call the master.
Most of the problems associated with the failure of the Zigmund & Shtain dishwashers can be solved on your own - now you know how to fix the situation if the PMM does not turn on and troubleshoot other problems. But more serious breakdowns, such as failure of a heating element, pump, electronics, are difficult to eliminate without knowledge of the mechanisms and electrical parts. Therefore, do not refuse to repair equipment by experienced craftsmen and contact service centers.
