3 reasons to watch “The Other Boleyn Girl” by Justin Chadwick

Meaning over the plot, female cinematic rivalry and sharp TV language. “Another one…” is an example of how elegantly you can twist the facts for the sake of fascination, sentimentality and magnificent costume.

  • Meaning over story. Anne Boleyn was not very beautiful. But her charmer Natalie Portman plays. She categorically did not want to succumb to the courtship of King Henry VIII of England, but at the center of the film is the rivalry between Anna and her sister Mary for a place next to Henry. The king was middle-aged, overweight and red-haired, but in this role the athletic young brunette Eric Bana … Such is the list of only the most obvious errors of the film against historical authenticity. But “One more…” is an example of how elegantly you can twist the facts for the sake of fascination, sentimentality and lush costume.
  • Women’s film rivalry. The drama of fate, a brilliant education and manners, the integrity of nature, a penchant for intrigue, obsession, belonging to the number of wives of the king nicknamed Bluebeard and, finally, death at the hands of an executioner-swordsman made Anne Boleyn a favorite heroine of cinema. Films about her have been made almost since its inception: in France in 1905, in England in 1911. Anna was played by Britons Charlotte Rampling (in 1973), Vanessa Redgrave (in 1966) and Helena Bonham Carter (in 2003), Canadian Genevieve Bugeaud (in 1969) … And here we have a native of Israel Portman. It is worth taking a closer look at the features acquired by Anna.
  • Sharp TV. It’s no secret that the center of cultural gravity in the film industry has shifted to the television series. It has more artistic novelty, more ideas. And more and more movies are borrowing from the series, as evidenced by “Another One …”. Its creators are not afraid of a dramatically darkened frame, the absence of large-scale panoramas, focus on faces, detail, and the measured rhythm of the editing. The fearlessness of the British anti-Hollywoods must be appreciated.
