PSYchology

The director is the youngest of the famous Cassavetes family, in the title role is a deservedly beloved in America and practically unknown in Russia star of independent cinema, and the plot is captivatingly simple.

1. Love without translation. There is a mystery in this film, although the plot is provocatively simple: a young American woman seeks her love and finds it in a young Frenchman. But… today’s 35-year-old New Yorker, with a college degree and a townhouse apartment, suffers from the fact that she is not married, not in love, has not found her soul mate. She enjoys the fruits of sexual revolutions, mature feminism, but wants all the same — at least a little bit to live one life with someone, not to hide in the cocoon of her independence. This film is about the mystery of human solidarity, which feeds on different feelings — friendship or love. And that being together is no less valuable than the value of an individual.

2. Parker with a golden feather. It’s about Parker Posey, the lead actress and almost unknown star. Because she is the star of «indie movies» — American independent cinema, which values not plots and budgets, like Hollywood, but characters. And from the film it becomes clear why Posey is the queen of indie. For example, if you see how much sadness she can play just by looking at a glass of red wine or blowing out a candle after a lonely dinner in a bachelor’s apartment.

3. The real Cassavetes. Zoe Cassavetes is the third director in the Cassavetes family. Her father, and then her brother, always made films about things that concerned them personally: John Cassavetes, an innovator of American cinema in the 60s, filmed about a sharp change in the attitude of his generation. Nick Cassavetes made She’s So Beautiful, one of the best films of the 90s, about the vulnerability of his self-confident peers. 37-year-old Zoe also made a film about herself — about how important feelings really are for those who are used to sacrificing them.

Starring: Parker Posey, Melvil Pupo and others. At the box office from October 4.
