For normal operation of the washing machine, all its mechanisms and components must function well. If a failure occurs somewhere, the equipment already requires repair. When the SMA hatch closes poorly, sags, has cracked glass, further operation becomes dangerous. In such cases, the replacement of the washing machine door is carried out at home.
When is sunroof replacement required?
For safety reasons, the machine will not start pouring water into the tank if the door is not fully closed. According to the principle of operation, the user puts the laundry in the drum and closes the door tightly. After that, the electronic lock is activated and the intake valves for water supply open.
What happens if the lock doesn’t work? The control module does not receive a signal from the blocker, therefore it does not issue commands for water intake. Here are the main problems with SMA doors:
- Loose fastening loops. Then the latch tongue simply does not fall into the keyhole.
- Glass cracked. It already threatens to flood. It is especially scary when boiling water is inside.
- The door itself was damaged. Any depressurization increases the risk of leakage.
The latter problem is especially relevant for vertical washing machines. The metal parts of the lid are subject to corrosion, so after a few years the door simply becomes unusable. Some masters clean and paint the damaged surface. But we know that corrosion cannot be stopped. Therefore, it is best to replace as soon as possible.
How to replace the CMA door?
Hatches and covers for washing machines “Indesit”, “Bosch”, Samsung, LG and other brands are freely available in online stores. Accurately find out the name of the model of equipment and only then complete the order of the spare part.
If you are using a front loading washer, then replace it like this:
- Be sure to unplug the machine.
- Open the door. To remove it from the hinges, you need to unscrew the fasteners.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the hinge.
- Lift the sunroof up and put it aside.
- Get a new part. Keeping the door level, fasten the hinge with two screws.
It is better to substitute a small stool under the hatch to evenly tighten the bolts. Otherwise, a skew will occur and the latch will not fall into the grooves of the lock.
Top-loading machines from manufacturers BOSCH, Samsung, Zanussi and others are also subject to repair. Most often, the brands “Indesit” (Indesit) and “Ariston” are subject to corrosion of the top cover. It’s all about the principle of water supply. First of all, it passes through the door, and only then it enters the drum, which leads to corrosion.
To replace the door on a vertical model, proceed as follows:
- Unplug the machine.
- Remove the two screws on the back of the case.
- Raise the control box and put it aside.
- Loosen the bolts behind the block, lift and remove the cover.
- Install a new spare part, fix it with self-tapping screws.
In the Zanussi typewriter, the mounts are somewhat different. Here the cover is additionally fixed by the holders. Carry out the dismantling in stages:
- Unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the CMA side panel.
- Lift it up by unfastening the latches and removing it from its place.
- Look under the top panel. There are holders that fix the hatch.
- To dismantle, remove the rubber plugs from the holders.
- Slide the latches apart and remove the sunroof from the body.

Most often, it is enough to disassemble the CMA cover and replace the defective elements: lock, glass, handle. But if the hatch is seriously damaged, then it is better to order a new spare part and install it on the washer. Happy repair!
