Dishwasher in Khrushchev? Not funny. Until recently, many only dreamed of buying such an assistant as a dishwasher. Today, appliances can be purchased without problems, but here’s where to place it if the entire kitchen occupies only 6 square meters. m? Part of the space will be occupied by a headset, a refrigerator, and you can’t do without a washing machine (in a small Khrushchev bathroom, a washing machine often does not fit and moves into kitchen penates). There is a way out, it is enough to connect creativity and imagination.
Start with a plan
Even the smallest kitchen can do without moving the walls if you properly delimit the space. It is worth abandoning unnecessary items, preferring multifunctional and ergonomic furniture. How to fit equipment in a small room? Consider the main points:
- Do not buy a ready-made headset that can eat up a lot of space. Order furniture according to an individual project, taking into account the size and characteristics of the room.
- Make a detailed plan with drawings, noting where each item and equipment will be located. Calculate everything to the centimeter. The ideal option is when the following items are located in the interior: cabinets and cases for storing dishes and bulk products, a table (bar counter), chairs, a sink with a cabinet, a hob with an extractor hood, a refrigerator, a washing machine and a dishwasher.
- Use any surface. The window sill can be designed as a continuation of the work surface or countertop. Make a storage cabinet underneath. How to place other household appliances? For example, a microwave and a multicooker can be mounted on brackets. So the place in the cabinets will be freed up for large-sized equipment.
Think in advance what kind of dishwasher you want to see at home in order to order a cabinet in size. If the headset is already installed, then measure the interior space and go to the store with the parameters that are already available.
Redevelopment options for a small kitchen, taking into account PMM
Our goal is to place the dishwasher in a small space. To do this, we offer three design options that will help win a place. Here are the types of reinstallation:
- Linear set. If you cook a little at home, then it is enough to install the hob on two burners, which will allow you to allocate more space for the work area. Under the countertop near the sink will be a narrow dishwasher, and in the corner – a refrigerator. Order hanging cabinets up to the ceiling to accommodate the necessary items. In this case, there will be room even for a small separate table.
In the course of work, will you have to rearrange the gas stove? This is done using a flexible eyeliner and does not require a project. But the permutation must be agreed upon in a notification manner.
- Corner kitchen. A common option that also requires a competent approach. It is important to correctly calculate the area between the refrigerator, sink and stove. The refrigerator will be near the door, and a PMM model 45 cm wide will fit next to it. Use the upper surface for small appliances.
- Barrier option. Here you will have to work hard and combine the kitchen with the living room by installing a glass partition. In this case, a full-size PMM model will fit between the sink and the refrigerator. Instead of a table, a bar counter is used.
If you have to demolish the partition and move the slab, you will need to draw up project documentation.

Where to put the dishwasher?
Start by choosing the right model. For compact placement, fully or partially embedded PMMs are suitable. The width of the narrow models is 45 cm, and the full-size models are 60 cm. What is the difference between these machines?
The equipment for full embedding is installed in one of the cabinets of the kitchen set. To avoid vibration, the body is attached to the walls of the cabinet, and a facade from the headset is hung on the door. Such a machine is completely hidden from view. But remember that narrow models are inferior in capacity to full-size ones. Therefore, decide in advance whether it is worth buying such an option.
A partially built-in dishwasher will fit under the countertop. The door of the equipment remains in place, not hidden by the facade. If the options for where to install the equipment are close to zero, then give preference to compact models that will perfectly stand apart:
- on the tabletop;
- on a low refrigerator;
- on a mound;
- under the sink.
The place under the sink is usually empty. A compact machine with dimensions of 55x50x44 cm will fit perfectly in this area. Alternatively, hang the instrument on brackets. It does not do without minuses here – this is a small capacity of the chamber, which will allow you to place no more than 6 sets of dishes. Plus, the functionality of the compact version is quite limited.
Is it important for you what brand PMM will be? Note that not all manufacturers produce compact models, but almost any TM has standard options.
But that’s not all. For lovers of innovation, hybrid cars are produced that combine several devices at once. For example, the Candy brand produces hybrids with an electric stove, oven and dishwasher. What is not an option with insufficient space? Just imagine that you don’t have to arrange this technique separately and look for a place for each.
It would seem that this approach can solve all problems at once, but it is worth considering the disadvantages:
- High price. Of course, when compared with the purchase of one dishwasher. And if you combine three devices, then it turns out profitable.
- Limited opportunities. Hybrids took a minimum from each technique: an oven for one baking sheet, a washing chamber for 6 sets, but burners, as expected – 4 pieces.
There is no need to talk about the reliability of combined models yet. The product is not yet as popular as individual cars. Therefore, the choice is yours.
