Dishwashers of the German brand “Neff” are not only reliable and functional, but also able to diagnose any failure in the operation of all important components and mechanisms. The device notifies about this with a breakdown code through the display on the control panel. How to decipher the errors of NEFF dishwashers and in what cases you can fix the problem yourself, we will tell in the article.
How are Neff fault codes deciphered
The NEFF dishwasher failure alert system does not have a standard set of codes. Each model may have its own. Therefore, we have included in the list all possible combinations of letters and numbers that may appear on the display of any PMM model of the Neff brand.
Consider the meaning of the codes available to the user without the test (service) mode:
- E01, E05 – in both cases, problems in the control module. You will need the help of a wizard to further diagnose the device.
- E1 – lack of heating due to a problem with sensors or electronics. It is also possible a short circuit or open circuit in the heating element circuit.
- E02, E04 – water does not heat up due to electronics failure. With error E02, the heater relay on the control board most likely broke.
- E2 – the temperature sensor (NTC) has broken. In most cases, the part must be replaced.
- E03 – additional drying is faulty. Reasons: the heating element relay (responsible for its operation) broke down, the contact in the circuit went off or the wire itself broke.
- E3 – problem with water intake: the PMM tank fills up longer than the set time. This happens when there is insufficient pressure in the water supply or the supply tap is closed. Perhaps the pipes, the inlet valve are clogged, or the chamber door is not tightly closed. More serious problems, such as a breakdown of the inlet solenoid valve, pressure switch or controller, should be fixed by a specialist.
- E4 – failure of the flow sensor (switch), which is responsible for the distribution of water in the sprinklers. It may not work properly either due to blockage or an open circuit.
- E5 – excess water level in the chamber. This happens when the drain system is clogged or damaged. The pressure switch or intake valve may also be faulty.
- E06 – failure of the camera door position sensor. The start of the wash is blocked because there is no signal that the door is closed. The cause may be a broken door lock, which is easy to fix on your own. If the sensor is broken, it will have to be replaced.
- E6, E28 – a malfunction of the aquasensor, which checks the quality of water when rinsing. The control module or the sensor itself may be faulty. The latter needs to be replaced.
- E07 – Drain does not work. The reason is improper loading of dishes, which can block the outlet for the outflow of liquid.
- E08, E8 — low water level in the chamber. The heating element will not turn on because there is not enough water for the circulation pump. The reason must be sought in the wrong set of the latter or in violation of the installation of the drain hose.
- E09, E9 – Malfunction of the heating element. Perhaps the wire has broken or the contact in the heating element circuit has come off. If it burned out, the part will have to be replaced.
- E10 – drying does not start due to a malfunction of the heater or fan.
- E11 – the temperature sensor is broken. In this case, it either doesn’t work at all or shows incorrect data. It is necessary to check the circuit and inspect the contacts. If the thermistor is broken, replace it.
- E12 – poor drying or insufficient heating. Most likely, the heating element is overgrown with a layer of scale and this does not allow it to function correctly.
- E13 – indicates the inflow of too hot water (over 75 ° C) due to a breakdown of the temperature sensor.
- E14 – water flow sensor error. The reasons are standard: the circuit broke, the contacts came off, or the part itself broke.
- E15 – the Aquastop leak protection system has worked. It is necessary to find the place of leakage: check the hoses, housing and other components of the PMM for damage. If the drain pump itself is leaking, a new part is installed.
The error may be displayed after the control module has been replaced. Try restarting your device. (How to restart the PMM, read after the list of errors.)
- E16 – leakage of valves or sensors. It is necessary to inspect the PMM nodes for leaks. Damaged parts are best replaced.
- E17 – gulf error (associated with strong pressure or overflow). It is necessary to check the pressure in the water supply and reduce it. The pressure switch or filler valve may have broken.
- E18 – low water level in the tank. Most likely, the inlet valve has broken, but the error may also indicate the problems described in codes E3 and E14.
- E19 means an internal error. You need to contact the service center.
- E20, E21 — the circulation pump does not function or is blocked. The malfunction is associated either with an open circuit of the pump motor, or with a breakdown of the tachogenerator or capacitor. Then they need to be replaced.
- E22, E24, E25 – Drain problems. The filter (or drain hose) may be defective or clogged. It is also necessary to exclude the incorrect connection of the latter, as well as the failure of the drain pump.
- E23 – the drain pump is broken. You can check the pump vanes for foreign objects that may be blocking the pump. If the part itself is broken, then either repair or replacement will be required.
- E26 – water flow sensor error. It is necessary to check the circuit for an open circuit, contacts, as well as the part itself.
- E27, E29, E30 – indicates a power failure. E27 indicates low voltage, E30 – high, E29 indicates its absence. What to do? First, call an electrician to check the wiring and further repairs. If the problem persists, then you need to contact the service center.
If any other alphanumeric combination (which is not in the list) is displayed on the screen, then a technical malfunction has occurred. You can try to fix the situation by rebooting the device.
To restart the PMM, you should:
- disconnect the equipment from the power supply;
- wait for a while (at least 10 minutes);
- try to start the device again.
If the reinstallation of the PMM was unsuccessful, you must contact the service department for the repair of household appliances.
What does this or that code mean, we figured it out. But sometimes the signal about the incorrect operation of the dishwasher is accompanied by the lighting or flashing of the indicators on the control panel. Consider their meaning below.
- The display flashes. This indicates that the cell door is not closed tightly.
- The faucet indicator lights up. It notifies that water is not running into the chamber. Possible causes are described in code E18.
- The wash indicator lights up. It signals that the car needs to be washed.
- synchronous flashing of all indicators on the panel indicates a failure in the software or control board. In such cases, the manufacturer in the instructions for the device recommends restarting the equipment. If the reboot did not help, then calling the wizard will be the surest solution.
What other problems arise during the operation of the dishwasher, read below.
Causes of malfunctions of the Neff dishwasher
Other malfunctions can also indicate a malfunction of the NEFF dishwasher. In most cases, they arise due to improper use of it:
- The machine does not turn on. Check the outlet and fuse.
- The program starts spontaneously. Most likely, you did not wait for the dishwasher to finish working. Try canceling the program (Reset).
- Detergent dispenser lid does not close. Most likely, powder residue has accumulated inside the container, which must be removed.
- The cell door does not close. Perhaps the door lock has come off or the equipment has not been installed according to the instructions.
- Strong foaming. Make sure that the rinse aid is not spilled anywhere. It is possible that hand washing powder has accidentally entered the rinse aid compartment.
- Noise during the operation of the PMM. Knocking can be emitted by sprayers that touch the dishes during rotation. Reinstalling the latest will help eliminate the noise. It is possible that light cutlery is moving during the wash. They should be more stable.
How to fix other malfunctions in the PMM “Neff” with your own hands, we will describe below.
NEFF dishwasher repair
The decision to self-repair a dishwasher that is under warranty must be balanced. Since further repair under warranty by specialists of the service center will be impossible.
Let’s consider how to fix the most characteristic breakdowns of the PMM of the Neff brand.
Before starting repairs, make sure that the device is disconnected from the mains and water supply.
Water leak
The most unpleasant situation that requires quick action. The first step is to locate the leak.
What to do:
- Check drain and fill hoses. Tighten their mounts. If pipes are damaged, replace them.
- Examine the seal on the cell door. It may have worn out and needs to be replaced.
- Check the dishwasher body for defects. If a hole or other damage is found in it, then it cannot be repaired.

Problems in the drain system
The drain tract suffers most often, since many owners ignore the elementary rules for operating equipment, namely:
- food remains are not removed from the dishes before loading;
- refuse to systematically clean the filters.
Understanding why this is necessary comes only after the machine has “reacted” with a breakdown.
How to fix the drain system:
- Open the hopper, remove the loading baskets and trays from it.
- Find the filter at the bottom of the chamber and unscrew it.
- Clean and rinse it of dirt.
- In place of the unscrewed filter, find the white cover and remove it (there is a drain pump behind it).
- Examine the impeller blades. Remove existing debris or other foreign objects.
- Assemble the parts in reverse order.
If the drain pump itself is faulty, it is changed.
Poor wash quality
Dirty dishes after washing indicate that the equipment has ceased to cope with its direct duties. The reason is to be found in the following:
- Wrong download. To ensure that the dishes are well washed from all sides, do not overload the chamber and place objects close to each other. You also need to ensure that the plates do not interfere with the free rotation of the rocker arms.
- Wrong program selected washing. To remove grease and dried-on dirt, it is better to set a more intensive washing program with a long cycle. Otherwise, the quality of washing will be unsatisfactory.
- Filters clogged or not fixed. Insert them correctly and fix them firmly. How to clean the part, see above.
- blocked or spray arms clogged. A large plate can block their rotation. Reinstalling items in the camera will help solve the problem. If the sprayers are clogged, the rocker arms must be removed and their holes cleaned from dirt.
How to clean the filter and dishwasher nozzles, see the video
If the quality of washing remains the same, the problem must be sought in the malfunctioning of the circulation pump or heating element.
Elimination of serious malfunctions, such as the failure of important components of the device or the control board, is best left to the master. After all, sometimes self-repair can further exacerbate the problem.
